As an FYI - I have travelled from North America (Emirates being the issuing ticket through all points) and paid the USD50 for an extra bag from point of departure to my destination. However, the bag was checked with the American carrier at first point of contact, not with Emirates itself. That can make a difference especially as I had a stop in between my departure before I met up with Emirates in NYC.

Thanks Skykitty - no it doesn't necessarily have to come back with her really - its just clothes and general stuff - have tried telling her to do a serious sort out but teenage girls!! - do you have any contacts for how she would go about sending it unaccompanied?

I think on destinations where it's the piece system (US) you pay per piece. I imagne everywhere else would be by the kilo. Does the stuff absolutely have to come with her? It may be more economical to send it unaccompanied if she doesn't need it urgently. There's a few companies near Perth airport that do this. Otherwise, try calling Emirates reservations to see if they can give you the price, if you want to do it ahead it may be possible for them to add this to your booking, but you would need to know the weight. It would also depend on the item, and how full the flight is. When my sister came to visit she brought some of my things and was 3kg over, the flight wasn't full so they let it slide. Then again, we are nice in Perth ;)

bblue I found that link but you can't access it until 24 hours before - it does say it is a 30% discounted rate - but on what? And is it a whole bag worth or by the kg? Its for my daughter who has been in Perth for a year and is now flying back and of course she went with a full bag and now has more stuff !!

Has anyone every booked an extra bag with Emirates - I believe you get the chance to do it when you check in online. What I want to know is how much it would cost - I can't seem to find this info anywhere. Thanks I paid £140 for 10 kg, and I'm a blue skyward member, not sure if it matters. Hubby and I actually were over with 15kg but they only charged us the online rate for 10kg eventhough we paid at the counter. maybe because our handluggage weight less than allowed, Who knows! It's not worth paying the extra unless you have to. we had no choice as I thought we could take 32kg each and hoped they would only charge us for the rest. I think they allow an additional 10 or 15kg (free) for golf or diving equipment.
