Hello,

I am looking for an Ethiopian maid to start in May/June time. Can you ladies advise on how I should go about finding one? Which agencies should I contact? What is the going rate for a full time live-in maid?
If anyone has an Ethiopian maid that can recommend someone, even better. She should have good English or Arabic.

TIA.

my ideas : Ethiopian are good for house work >> Philipinas are good for kids (more hygenic)

Thank you ladies for your replies. I also believe that if a maid absconds there is usually a reason behind it. I hope we can offer a good home environment so whoever we decide to hire will feel comfortable and well looked after. Purple, thank you for the information about AnonDubai's maid. I will put a note for her. Any other feedback welcome!

There is a mafia for all nationalities. It would be interesting to know about the others. I find mine quite loyal and smart so far... also, I like to remind her from time to time what will happen to her if she is planning to abscond ;)

I think this is mainly in Sharjah that it is happening, I also know people that have Ethiopian maids so as I said it was in my opinion. If there is any doubt as to my post please call the Sharjah immigration and ask to be put through to the maid section. I have no reason to lie and was just offering my opinion - sorry if you dont like it but there is no need to be so confrontational or rude. Have a great day

I have had an Ethiopian Maid going on 8 years in April and have many friends with one as well, they have all been trustworthy, loyal, wonderful women, please dont judge a race by someone else's "thoughts" there is good and bad in any race in any profession. I have personally never heard of a Ethiopian maid being anything but warm hearted, loving and hard working, I would be very interested to know how "exagarated" the story of the absconding maids is and where it is to read the article to hear there side of the story! As for a "mafia" that just makes me laugh out loud!! At the end of the day, if a maid absconds, there is probably a good reason behind it and cant say I blame them the way I have seen some people treat there maids. Also would be intrested to find out how many other nationalities abscond to compare apples to apples, not only in housemaids but other jobs too.

personally I never heard of an absconding Ethiopian maid (touch wood) so this huge maffia that birchy talks about must be very good to keep it all so quiet :\: We have an ethiopian maid as do many of my friends (none have run off yet!) , pretty much any agency will get you one, difference is fees etc. Google Labour supply and find an agency you like. We used Al shorooq labour supply, but they have not got any experienced girls at the moment. If you put a note up for AnonDubai she will tell you who she used, she got a girl with previous ME Experience and is very happy. Personally I really dont think it matters much which agency you use, its just luck at the end of the day. Most of them do not spk any English when they arrive, but Anons girl spks fluent Arabic. edited by Purple on 12/02/2012

IMHO i would not even consider hiring an ethiopian and before anyone shoots me down please read to the end. last week alone 78 maids all ethiopian were caught in one building and everyone of them had absconded. There is a huge mafia that controls them and these maids at the moment are proving to be the most problomatic. They wait for you to make the visa and then run away to work part time. In my family and friends alone we have had a total of 16 run away and it becomes an expensive process. However if you decide that you want to go - there are a great deal of agencies in Ajman who have them. Good luck with your decision
