Eye lash growth?

Lighting a ciggy this morning my lighter ignited into a flame thrower and completely burnt off my eyelashes on one eye. I am soooooo lucky I didn’t burn my eye, but then again eyelashes are there for protection and they did their job, albeit I lost them in the process ;-( It could have been so much worse so in the grand scheme of things I was pretty lucky!

I’m blessed with very long lashes but now look rather odd with good lashes on one eye and singed stumps on the other. It’s 8 weeks today until my wedding day …..will they grow back in time?

Fed up and in shock :(

{opens the floodgates of yet another reason not to smoke!!}

For now why don't you buy the stick on strip eyelashes. They can be taken off and reapplied every day. Good luck. edited by intrigue on 23/04/2011

Thanks Sue - yes the timing is rubbish, if it wasnt for the wedding I really wouldn't be so bothered :-( And yes, the comment had to be made re the giving up motive :) :) ...... I do tend to agree but my stupid 'orrible nicotine cravings sadly don't. Thanks for the tip Marina! :)

Taking vitamins A and E will help! And ofcourse apply castor oil! See the result:)

What bad timing - you poor thing! Your eyelashes are constantly replacing themselves, so hopefully you will have some lovely fresh new long ones alongside the old stragglers on the day!! I had to have my eyelashes cut right down as a child for an op and they grew back long and lush. Sometimes people don't believe I'm not wearing mascara. Hope the same happens to you too. x ETA - can't resist this - if ever there was a motive to stop smoking, this must surely be it!! edited by Sue R on 22/04/2011

8 weeks to grow back....eeek that's cutting it fine! Although, they are still there (just quite markedly much shorter than the other eye), so not having to grow from scratch, hopefully they'll be ok for my big day and will not need to go the extension route (but thanks for the tip!). Interesting stuff Malibu regarding the Vit C connection. I think up my intake of Vit C, buy some vaseline and keep crossed fingers the next few weeks! Dreading putting mascara on stunted lashes for work on Sun morn ......maybe forego the mascara for a week so as not to draw attention to them..... other half says its not noticable, but of course my good lashes are waving flags with bells on compared to my other eye when I look in the mirror!! Sigh ;)

Funny that this thread is here today. Only this morning i noticed that my eyelashes have got really long! They arent normally this long. I have started taking vitamin c everyday (but it wasnt for this reason!), and just did a little research on the connection between my long lashes and vit c. This is what I found out: Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is linked to cell growth and has a similar effect to B6 by helping to stop the brittleness that causes the lashes to break. Although you can get enough vitamin C from foods such as oranges and some green leafy vegetables, many people need a supplement. This is because vitamin C needs to be replaced frequently in the body. Seems there are other vitamins you can take to encourage them to grow! I take 1000mg a day, thats the RDA. Ive only been taking regular vit C for two weeks. Get to that chemist!!! M :)

I used to put vaseline on my lashes every night (my grandma's tip) and they did thicken, but it took months I'm afraid. Why not have eyelash extensions put on to match your other eye? They can glue them to even short hairs I think....
