Frustrated with the maid search

Hi everybody... I´m trying to vent here. I know nobody can stand maid´s threads anymore, but seriously I never thought it would be so hard. I´ve spent the last days calling maids, agencies etc and it looks impossible, you call somebody who has posted an ad yesterday and the person has already found a job, you call agencies and sometimes nobody picks up the phone or they don´t offer the service, you send emails to agencies and there is no response.
When you can finally talk to a maid she is "auction" the service.
I´m not offering a bad salary, I´ve checked posts and ads and I´m offering what looks like to be the market amounts, but looks like the demand is higher than the offer.
Any suggestions for somebody who really needs someone to watch the kids while I´m working (after school until 6 pm) and needs it fast?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion!

Regards

Hi mushypeas, I´ve called the agency and was very surprised by the fees. I´ll have to pay 9200 for an indonisian or 4450 for an ethiopian. Do they give any guarantees? The lady who gave me the information was not very patient so I could no get much information. The salaries they mention are very low, do we have to pay the salary they say? Another question, she said that all ladies are away, do they speak english at all? How was your experience, if you don´t mind sharing. yep .. they are expensive and i was going back and forth trying to figure out what to do .. I did end up using them and I can say they were really good. You dont have to pay the salary that they stipulate. thats the minimum as per the law and its upto you how much you pay your housemaid. they do have a guarntee policy and but it basically covers you for the first 3 months if your maid ends up failing her medical if she is pregnant. they will replace her. All girls from the Phillapines speak English as do most of the Sri Lankan ladies they have. They didnt have any Indonesian English speaking girls. they speak Behasa and Arabic. They did send me some CV's of some english speaking Ethiopian girls too. Email them.. they are more helpful over email . Good luck . I did find this way was better then trying to interview the ladies here...

A housewife can work with an NOC from her husband, but NOT as a housemaid/nanny. There are very different regulations regarding housemaids than nearly any other worker. Housemaids are not governed by ministry of labor, so rules don't apply. They are under the ministry of immigration.

HI, A lady just called me saying she is in her husband´s visa and she wants to be a live out maid. Is it even legal? She said she has a letter from her husband´s company saying she can work, but I´ve never heard such thing, is it legal? Regards

I would want to meet a maid face to face before I considered hiring her. Took my DD two months to find the right one and she was let down many times. After a telephone interview first, the maid would come to the villa, say 'yes' she wanted the job, only to change her mind the next day. Possibly she had been for several other interviews and then decided which job she fancied the most. I know it's very frustrating but unfortunately you just have to keep trying.

I know of someone who is looking to come over from the Philippines. If you do it this way, you could have someone start next week - although it's a bit of work. But I can tell you how to do it and it's less expensive than an agency. If you want her cv, email me [email protected]

I recommend Al Ahliya labour Supply. They have a website too. However they are closed from 1.00pm until 4.00pm for lunch. they are open until 8.00pm though. Specify the nationality you want and they will send you CV's. I asked for the contact number for the ladies so I could interview them over the phone. Its expensive. the Admin charge is alot but I found this better then calling all the ladies who put ads in the classifieds. Most of the ladies from the Classifieds that I called had other offers and once I arranged to interview a lady and drove all the way to Diera city Centre from jumeira and she didnt bother to turn up and her phone was switched off ! edited by mushypeas on 18/10/2011
