We have the shortened UK birth certificate from UK embassy in UAE, but need to get the 'full/long' one.

What documents would we need for this, and is it just a case of sending a letter with all the passports/certificates or would there be a form to complete?

thanks,

Yet if you were trying to obtain a passport, you would use a birth certificate as proof of your identity The Passport Office carries out extensive identity checking itself when validating applications. Somebody trying to use someone else's birth certificate to obtain a passport fraudulently would be found out quickly.

Yet if you were trying to obtain a passport, you would use a birth certificate as proof of your identity? Anyway this is great news, as I thought it would involve numerous trips, a lot of AED and a million documents. Happy days. thanks! :)

Birth, marriage and death certificates are public documents, so anybody can access them. As far as using them for nefarious purposes, you can't, really. How many places can you use just a birth certificate on its own as proof of ID? It's actually a pretty useless document as far as thing like banks are concerned.

Thanks very much for that link. If I'm reading correctly, you could order a full birth certificate for anyone?? :\: :\: Surely people could use that as proof of ID to open accounts and things?...!

I had to apply for a full one a couple of years ago,I applied online-it was a quick and easy process. This link may help http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentcitizensandrights/Registeringlifeevents/Birthmarriageanddeathcertificates/dg_175628

Can anyone get one, regardless of age? When I was born, many moons ago, the short one was free and the long one cost extra. As my Dad was tasked with sorting out the birth certificate he opted for the freebie only. I spent a while thinking I was adopted. I thought it was probably too long ago to get the full version.
