I stopped in at the tyre place this morning to confirm the prices I was given over the phone yesterday.

I wrote the specs down and handed them to the guy in the shop. He has given me prices of aed 700 each for the rear and aed 620 each for the front so a total of aed 2640 fitted and balanced etc. It's a proper tyre shop with the proper equipment.

Let me know if you decide it's worth the drive and want directions, it's dead easy to get to.

When the dealers quoted me AED 3700 (for tyres that I got elsewhere for AED 2300) I gasped. Even the guy at the dealer giving me the quote looked at me and said "It's too much, isn't it?" lol!

It's always the dealers isn't it! I posted a while back that Al Tayer wanted to replace all four on mine for 4,000 Dhs - the tyre guy down the road said they were still good for some time. AAA just replaced the front two in the last service, the rear ones are still good for some time. Flippin' dealers - always trying to rip you off. Well done four sourcing good guys :)

Not necessarily. I can't speak for everywhere but the places I tried gave similar prices for tyres that are still wrapped and are places that I've seen receive deliveries from proper distributors. I keep all my receipts and I checked back for tyres I bought a few years ago in Dubai from Technical Resources who have several branches in Dubai and are a reputable company. The prices I was getting quoted recently were a bit higher than I paid a few years ago. In my case it was just the main dealer loading the price.

You know that phrase 'if something seems too good to be true, it usually is'? Re-treaded tyres will still look as new as they have gone back through the moulding process. It wouldn't surprise me if these are retreads and not actually new tyres.

Oh, no worries, I'm glad you found somewhere closer to home. I'm just glad you didn't have to pay AED 4900 :) :)

SD - I really do appreciate all your efforts and actually feel guilty about this but nonetheless must share for fellow EW's benefit :) So I asked my work driver to take my car up to RAK tomorrow and gave him these details (work quiet for him atm). So anyways, an hour later he comes back to me and has found a place in Karama which does the same Birdgestone tyres for total of AED2800 fitted and balanced. We head of there this afternoon and have the tyres changed save myself a small fortune and now tomorrow he can have the day off as he doesnt need to go to RAK for me LOL! The gentlemen did give a good price as he thought my driver was the one paying (isn't it always the way lol) however he let me have them for the price regardless. If case anyone else is interested these are the details: Khoyool Al Nasr Tyres Repairing Al Kuwait Street Kifaf Building Ph. 04 3375208 Mobile 0508751919 Cheers :)

Thank you :):) I just called them, hope he understood everything I was saying lol..confirmed the priceing is for the 2010 Bridgestone so looks like its a trip to RAK tomorrow. The onyl thing he doesnt do is wheel alignment but there is another shop that can do it for 200 or I know many places in Dubai also do it so should not be difficult, still saves a small fortune. they only accept cash so will ask my work driver if he can take it up tomorrow! Thanks again:)

The place is called Hassan Darwish tel 07 244 7399 or fax 07 233 2358. My tyres are all 2010, the oldest being mid-year. They are all new, they still had all the bits sticking out the side from the mould. I tried another independent shop in RAK when I was changing mine a month or so ago and the price was similar. Both places have many tyres still wrapped up from the manufacturer. I really don't know about them accepting someone else's card. I paid cash for mine. You will get a proper receipt though. (I will assume you or the person bringing your car is not familiar with RAK :)) Drive the the 'end' of Emirates Road where you come to a roundabout where you can only turn right (into RAK city) or left to head back south down the coast road. There is a huge RAK Freezone sign behind the roundabout. Turn left at the roundabout and take the second U-turn. About 150m after the u-turn you will see Hassan Darwish on your right as a yellow building on the far end of a strip of 5 or 6 units.

Wow that is quite a saving and can't thank you enough SD. I have had to get a major service plus brakes this week alone so did not want to pay huge prices on tyres also. I am willing to take the car to RAK for sure. Just to confirm, the tyres are 2010 production date at least and also not re-treads? Do you have a number for the shop and name and I will book in:) I might be stretching it here but do you think if someone else took my car with my credit card they would allow him to pay for it?? Thanks a million.
