The bit that makes me laugh is the post from the member who always comments on these letters and is less than nice about the people here - yet this seems to be the first place she comes when she wants something if her number of posts are anything to go by. Hypocrite that she is. I'd just laugh the 7days letter off - the person who wrote it obviously has such a bee in her bonnet about maids that it renders her incapable of following of thread and understanding whats been said. Its true there's none so so blind as those who won't see. And I know some think the frying pan was really of no consequence but it must have hurt for Ginnee to have it re-inforced once again that she had a lying, cheating, stealing, scheming coniving cow living under her roof. <em>edited by DesertRose1958 on 06/01/2011</em>

Why is everyone so worked up about some letter in 7 days? Someone says - we are entitled to our opinions but we do not run to newspapers with them. I see no difference with online forum or letters page to newspapers - public opinions all the same. Live and let live. I find that periodically someone writes to 7 days to spice things up on this forum - that is what I think. I personally find it funny, because the writer seems to get exactly the response she or he wants. Let people have different opinions, what's the big deal? I found this thread to also be full of helpful comments, and also believe putting the ban on the maid was the right thing to do - companies would do the same if we did a runner- but so what if someone writes a letter to 7 days? It's a free world. let people say what they want.

I didn't misunderstand at all! Sadly that was due to the OP not giving the reasoning behind the ban, which later came to light and was understandable. But it was the fact that the ban was put in place BEFORE any other action was being considered. I wasn't the only one to think that was wrong.

Sure there were some comments (esp. towards the end) towards the maid that weren't all fluffy...but those really came only when more facts would come out (ie cctv footage of her possibly leaving, having stolen money in the beginning, etc). I thought the OP was overly generous in her concern and the MAJORITY of posters supported her concern. Some people like to stir the pot even if it's empty. I disagree, from the very start certain people were out for blood, before any specific details came to light. That's not true Jules. And for example, I remember that you specifically had misunderstood what OP was doing in the beginning and was one of the first to go on the defensive against OP's actions. She was not abusing her employer/sponsor powers by putting an employment ban on the maid just because she can (we've all heard the stories of people who do this)...she merely put a travel ban on the maid to keep her from leaving the country (as well as to protect herself if this turned badly). There are some people who start off negatively, but it definitely wasn't the majority in THIS case (I agree sometimes it's a lynchmob right from the get go in other cases). I think OP's constant claim to not want to punish, merely find, her maid was what kept the thread civil.

I'm actually glad that some of the horrid attitudes of people on here have been highlighted, maybe some people will now 'reel it in' and think twice if they know others are watching. I agree. I don't think this is a stupid letter, it might be generalizing a little, but she has a point. The reactions she is getting out of this thread kind of proves it too. The lynch mob is now after her. and why do you all think that "power to the people" makes the writer a man? really? Peace, I'm out! lol

what makes me laugh is that this person has done exactly what s/he's criticizing others of doing, s/he's formed an opinion based on "what if's" like what if this poor maid has had something terrible happen, just like others have seen the flip side and thought, what if it was sinister and the maid has run off etc... and obviously s/he's a bit green as its more common for someone to disappear out of choice rather than because of something terrible happening.

It is a stupid letter to a stupid newspaper (news?) There are some weird people about, and there is always a chance that it is not an EW member, but I would think it is.
