We have just been asked to produce an IBAN for our account in the next 5 days so we can be paid at the end of the month. Seems to have caught some out by surprise.

This may help some if you have an HSBC account;

http://www.hsbc.ae/1/2/personal?WT.ac=UAE_cp_hp_txt01_1110

You can generate your own IBAN number by putting in you account number.

Don't get caught out by the 19th of November every account is meant to have one.

Very important and yes I have done Hubby's Iban. We got an email the other day from payroll informing us the Iban number I sent was incorrect, I just forgot a "0", why are there so many????? All sorted now, so salary should be ok. Is it a common thing for all banks here to want the Iban or just HSBC????? edited by salsB on 11/11/2011 From the 19th it is all banks re new regulations from the central bank. Have to agree, HSBC online generator is so good and it works, still would like more use of plain English, ie Idiots guide to really get to grips with this.

Hopefully most companies will inform their employees. We were told about two weeks ago to supply the IBAN and that the banks should be sending out a letter. I didn't get a letter but as I have online banking I was able to get the IBAN number from there. So if you have online banking it's the easiest way to find your number :)

Thank you so much DGIT - I wonder why HSBC didn't actually notify its customers? It looks like the IBAN code is just an across the board one with loads of zeros, followed by your old account number, but I would never have known to do this unless you'd posted - so at least my salary payment won't get bounced thank goodness.

For one HSBC were proactive as the link to get the IBAN was on their website and it works

Hi Jupiter, that's why i posted the info, had same dilema! On personal home page is a section that says "IBAN" , click that and it goes to another section that offers "generate IBAN". Put in your correct account number and an IBAN number comes up, then verify the number is ok in verify section. That is your account IBAN number. I did that then went to HSBC to double check it was correct, it is. ANd the guy told me it's the only way to gain your IBAN! Good luck.

We have been asked the same but I don't know how to find it out. I've sent a request to HSBC (can't get through to them on the phone) so am hoping I hear back from them in time. The link you sent just takes me to the home page - where should I look specifically? TIA.
