Yes perfectly clear sense Dubaicat - you're absolutely right it's just sensationalism - those headlines sell papers but most of the papers here this morning are just entitled - Carnage...... There will be a full investigation. We were travelling home on the A303 last night and there were so many firework displays going on and because the road is so high up with fields on either side - it was hard not to be distracted by the amazing displays.

I don't think there's any mad rush to blame any one particular cause at the moment, but it's natural that both the media and those investigating the awful accident are looking at many possibilities, one of which is that smoke from the fireworks display may have had an impact along with weather and other factors. That headline is just sensational and ridiculous, though. It's unnecessary and, as you say, how will it make them feel? Sadly tripe like that sells rags - sorry, papers. Edited to add: Headlines like that do make it seem that the blame can be attributed to the club, and that's just wrong. I meant it's only these papers trying to blame someone so they have a good story. I'm shattered - does this make sense?! edited by DubaiCat on 06/11/2011

God bless to all those who have lost loved ones or the ones that are suffering horrific injuries, such a terrible tragedy. BUT I just want to add that besides all the sadness why do we now need to be putting the blame on the nearby rugby club and its fireworks display? The british newspaper i saw today said "seems local rugby club fireworks display to blame for accident that killed 7" How are the good people that organised that event probably to raise money for the rugby club going to feel reading those headlines? The circumstances of what happened will be investigated but why cant the newspapers and media be a bit less sensational with their claims? There will have been speeding drivers and probably fog , rain and tiredness all of which will have contributed, if anyone has survived and live to tell the story then maybe they will have some answers..... So very sad.

I woke up to this news yesterday and had a mad panic, as I knew my BIL was on his way home from work and he'd mentioned traffic on his FB before he set out. Turned out there was another smaller crash at the junction before our one that he got stuck in, but I thought this crash was the major one and totally panicked until I got hold of them. What a horrendous night for all the victims, families and the emergency services. Know what you were feeling, I spent a few very worried hours knowing that my brother travels that route every evening too, thankfully yours and mine all ok. So sad for those who perished in such a horrendous way.

I just read it may have been something to do with a fireworks display at Taunton Rugby Club, and also that the youngest victim may have been only three months old. It doesn't bear thinking about.

That's really scary, DubaiCat. The incident was because of a combination of factors that you could never predict. RIP to all those killed and let's send healing to all who survived physically. The emotional and mental scars will be permanent.
