Moving to Dubai next week and have two weeks to find somewhere to live. Does anyone have any advice on how to choose and area? We have an 8 month old and would like a villa. Is there a guide or anything?

We chose our villalocated in Jafliya (near Satwa) based on the following criterias : - near the school (OUd Metha) - near DH's work (DIFC at that time) - near the beach - in a small compound (because I wanted the kids to make friends easily) now that DH will work in JLT we realize that the traffic on SZR is not as bad as in 2008/2009...

We are moving there in 2 weeks and have taken a Villa in Meadows. For us, there were 3 criteria: 1. Close to DH's work 2. Close to kids' school 3. Bike paths and greenery for kids to ride and play. Neither of us wants to spend too much time in a car over there given the complexity of the roads and the rashness of the drivers. I've also had the luxury of DH working from home for the last 6 years, so we wanted to minimise his travel time to the office so we could maximise time with family. We are also looking forward to living in closer proximity to people, as in Australia, we are on small acreage with pool and tennis court - no real need to go out of the property really - so don't really know our neighbours.

I guess this a pretty individual thing...for what it's worth, we wanted to live close to my work in DIFC (DH works from home) , close to school (although the location was a factor in choosing the school too...we had a choice ot two schools), somewhere where we would be likely to meet other families (so a compound rather than a stand alone villa), access to a pool and not on a huge estate. i also wanted to live close toe the beach (although we've only actually been once)! On that basis, we chose Um Suqiem which seemed to tick all the boxes. I do so miss my hour long commute to canary Wharf from North London!!:)

We chose based on what was best for my daughters and I as I'm a stay at home mum with my little girls. We initially thought about a villa in the Springs as it looked lovely, but when my husband started looking around, he thought it would make us feel a bit isolated. So we moved to an apartment in JBR (Sheraton end as it is so much quieter) and we have everything on our doorstep. Restaurants, swimming pools, shopping, plus it is easy to get to the metro station, Marina Mall is a short walk away and if I need to jump in a taxi, there are so many of them outside! My husband had lots of help from his work in regards to information about areas- can you or your husband see if your work has similar guidelines or just ask colleagues? If you know what you want, I'm sure people on here will happily advise (I will try and help anyway)! Good luck with the move!!

Live as close to work as you can because the travel/traffic can be a nightmare. So - if you are based in internet city - you would be close to The Meadows, The Springs, 10/15 mins from Arabian Ranches, victory Heights, Jumeirah Village, Green Community Motor City. If you were working at the airport you'd be better looking at Mirdif, The Villa, Cedre Villas, Podium villas at Business Bay. Hope that helps. As you have a small baby I would recommend moving to a community rather than a stand alone villas as you might feel quite cut off. Most of the communities have fabulous community facilities like playgrounds, pools and you'll meet peiople very quickly.
