Hi Muurtje, we don't call each other as he doesn't have roaming on his BB as he thought it was a waste of money, so it stays off while he's away. Originally he would use email and Skype to talk to me if away for more than a couple of days, but now every time he goes away he insists there's no net in the hotel or it's too expensive. I have asked politely and not so politely that he at least gets in touch once as to me it's important, but nothing's changed so far. I do miss him, i get lonely though i go out and do my own thing...and i don't understand why he doesn't feel the same way. He also comes back with loads of pics of the interesting places he goes with his colleagues in their time off, and i sort of think they must just be more interesting than me. Sorry i'm really moaning now!
Sorry, my phone is really slow when I post so i'm a bit behind! Lol apologies for not being scandalous enough for a Thursday thread, if no one posts anything better i'll add some fake juicy details later, perhaps involving pampas grass :)
GA, thanks. That would be great. The idea of looking after my LO's for an entire afternoon all by myself is mind-numbing.
But I do think you need to lay some ground rules -- ie, he must contact you daily or risk finding an empty house on his return :)
How often does he contact me? Too much when he is away!
Think i speak more to him when he is working away than i do when he is home.
LOL :) I feel that way sometimes, too :)
It depends on where he is. Sometimes time-difference can make it difficult call each other. Usually we speak for a couple of minutes each evening, usually when he's taking a smoke break. I try to avoid calling him during working hours as he'll be too focused on what he is doing and it will impossible to have a normal conversation with him.
It's better now, but when we were first together and I would call him at work, he'd be extremely business like and quite formal. I'd say at the end of the call: I love you and he'd reply Yes, ok, bye. He used to feel embarrassed saying I love you too in front of collegues. Now he doesn't mind any more.
OP I get the feeling that you miss him a lot when he goes away and would like him to contact you more often then he does. There are no guidelines on how often he should or shouldn't. Reading this post some people actually seem to like not being contacted ; ) I think it is a good idea to do what Nimonemo does, and ask to be called/e-mailed/sms'ed a certain amount of times. However if your DH wouldn't respond kindly to this, there is nothing stopping you from calling him is there?
Sorry, my phone is really slow when I post so i'm a bit behind! Lol apologies for not being scandalous enough for a Thursday thread, if no one posts anything better i'll add some fake juicy details later, perhaps involving pampas grass :) I just though i'd ask as feel a bit fed up today and all sorts of negative thoughts are going through my mind, so thought you ladies might bring me back to reality :) Flipping men though, really. And flipping work trips with no free net and gorgeous team mates to make wives all ancy. Lol...at least it's Thursday! I'm going shopping tonight with his card, and he won't know as his phone's always off so won't get the texts :)
Mine contacts me everyday by several text. Wants to know how things are going with me and the kids. Phone calls are for urgent matters. If he has time we will also correspond via email and Facebook.
So SueB it wouldn't bother you not to hear from him? I'm normally fine with it but it's become the standard now and on long trips it does make me wonder why he wouldn't want to get in touch... When i was away recently I really missed him and emailed at least once a day. Perhaps it's a man thing. Sue I think our husbands are in the same industry albeit in different roles, so you might understand me when I say i'm not thrilled with him spending all his time abroad going out with his workmates and seeming to forget about me..considering who his workmates are and what they look like generally lol :) gosh I think i'm too sensitive!
Contact me? I get a phone call occasionally when something needs to be done, and I ask for a text when he boards and lands (Tajik Air, anyone?) but for the most part, if I want to talk to him, I have to call him. And I do, lots.
ETA: Have to say, this isn't really going to do for my Thursday entertaining thread.

To avoid any dissapointment, before he goes I tell him that I would expect to speak to him at least 2 times per day. And then he phones me twice per day (not more, but it is enough). If I do not say anything he might not phone me every day and because I need it I just ask for it. Blokes are different and they have different necesities, it does not mean they love us less, it is that some of them do not need certain things as much as us. That is why a long time ago I learnt how to ask for what I need, and it works!
As he's away more than he's here, we're always in daily phone contact, morning and evening and whenever he boards a plane and lands safely (I have worry genes in parts no other imaginations reach ;) ). It started when he was away when I was miscarrying our first child (where's that thread gone?) and he had to be contacted to come back quickly. He's no good with txts or emails and sometimes tries to use Skype, but doesn't understand it.
well lol....when we were 1st together he would call now and then and now he might surprise me with a call but, its not a problem if he doesnt call at all. I don't expect him to call but the surprises are nice, now and then lol
oh its non stop. Constant SMS throughout the day, with a phone call each night to have a "voice" count and make sure I haven't mislaid any children. If he does go quiet it means his PA has failed to arrange phone top up. Bliss.
