Can anyone offer opinions on either Howdra or Explorer agencies? I am looking to hire a fulltime maid, and their charges & services seem to be exactly the same, so I don't know which one to choose!
TIA! :)

I do not know Howdra or Explorer, but in any case DO NOT use Nannies Dubai(www.nanniesdubai.com) - total scam! I paid the 3,000 AED non-refundable upfront fee, the agency owner, an aggressive Russian lady named Julia, said it's to cover the costs of doing background checks, security checks, pre-screening interviews and maintaining her database of available helpers - unfortunately, i quickly found out she just calls random people she finds through the Dubizzle classifieds, sends them to my home for interview - even if I say I dont like their CV / their experience is not matching my requirements, and sometimes she would not even send me their CVs at all. So keep your Dirhams and go for a more professional agency.... edited by ramses84 on 02/10/2012 edited by ramses84 on 02/10/2012

We had a maid from howdra for the last year and a bit, she was really sweet and we both trusted her (which i think is a good thing out here). My only concern was that she used to tell me awful things about the accommodation that Howdra had them in, no running water etc... so she was pleased when her contract ended last month and wasnt renued. I'll look up explore not heard of this company, has anyone got contacts handy ?? Hi they are based on SZR al Moosa tower 2 tel: 04 3587622

From personal experience I would go for Explorer. I was with them for over 2 years. All girls get paid Dhs 1000( i paid my maid extra dhs every Thu before day off). You just need to chose right person for you, tell them the criteria: age, experience, if she has experience with children, likes pets, knows how to cook, clean, etc. And even if it doesnt work out, you Explorer will change a maid for you. When it comes to Howadra, when I was enquiring I was met with rude attitude from the owner,so i decided to go against them. Good luck

We were choosing between these two agencies and decided to go with Howdra because their maids get 1000 aed salary whereas in Explorer they pay "from 800 to 1200 aed depending on qualifications". I asked Explorer if they had a maid with higher qualifications hence higher pay available and never got a reply. As for Howdra, I struggled with the first maid we got and it took them a long time to replace her, communication was quite poor, but the new maid seems to tick a lot of boxes (touch wood) so I guess I shouldn't be complaining. Flower_girl, I thought they provide one replacement only - how did you manage to get four??

It is not about the company - they are somehow 'related' companies and provide same service. It is about he MAID you will hire. I changed 4 maids within 9 months, and Inshallah, this last one (the 4th) will remain LONG TIME with us :) Just make sure you get to interview the maids as soon as they are finish with their training - so you'll have a better 'option' of maids. Good luck! Would like to know what u paid..lay I checked it was 5000 deposit.3000 office fee and 2700 per month salary.ehat were the reasons of changing the maid...like did the maid decide to leave or u were unhappy...basically just want to know under what circumstances would they replace the maid. Unfortunately I went the other route and sponsored in my self and she decided to leave in three months with my money down the drain.now thinking of going agency route again.

I have used Howdra and had exceptionally good and exceptionally poor service. I guess it depends on the agency maid that you get. Can you have a "trial" with each agency with the maid they are proposing to send and see which one is better!
