Sounds like you've discovered the snobbish mummy mafia of your LO's private school, and experiencing the playground politics. Just want to say, hang in there, they are not all like that, I'm sure there are some really nice mums as well, just need to be patient in finding them.

No natalie8 we are not in London unfortunately...I don't think it would be so difficult there, London is very multi-cultural and full of expats so you will probably love it! I love London but where I am is nothing like London...

Thank you ladies! I am trying to enjoy the UK, love going for walks in the beautiful green parks. But we are in a small town and feel quite claustrophobic having lived in big cities all my life. As for the other mums being jealous I doubt it, the kids are going to private schools so the mums have nothing to be jealous about as they are doing well I suppose.

Maybe you should get in touch with Tally-ho. She was an expat and she has a lot of great things to say about living in the UK which should cheer you up.

Hi frenchy. I'll be moving to London in the new year to join my husbanf. I would love to meet up with you. I know we'll be able to relate to each other, being expats in Dubai and other places for a while. I'm looking forward to moving there but there are quite a few things about here that I'll miss. You should take bbcb's advice and go on day trips or weekend trips. I just spent the month of October there and we went to Canterbury, Dover, Brighton, Bournemouth, Bath and Windsor. You don't mention if you're in London or another city. You can e-mail me at nataliecaroleajarn*at*yahoo*dot*ca

Don't have any experience moving to another as an expat adult, but I was an expat brat, who went home to study and found myself surrounded by locals, who had nothing in common with me, other than heritage. Not the same for you, but what worked for me, was finding things to do that the locals are interested in ( even if it was boring ),volunteer, putting yourself out there, and being patient - letting people come up to me and include me after I had demonstrated that I was friendly and willing to mingle. Maybe it is intimidating for other mums that you have so much expat experience? I know other people used to avoid me because they thought that. If you're not a Brit, maybe use that to your advantage? Sorry you're going through such a tough time, hang in there and pretty sure you'll make friends soon. After all, you can always whinge about it here!;)

Hi Frenchy x I dont know you at all or your situation ..I think I would truly miss Dubai If we had to leave - so my thoughts are with you. My thoughts are no matter where you get sent .. you heart is always where you feel most at home. You have your family around you - make the most of the time x Visit & enjoy Kent - Go visit the Coast of Scotland - spend time in Poole in Dorset - nothing need cost a fortune to do - only time and effort. I believe you moved at a bad time .. September .. its Cold and Miserable and wet .. but the Colour changes are amazing.. get wrapped up in Boots, Wooley hats and big jackets .. explore the forests.. the Culture ..the curry mile in Manchester .. York cathedral.... Blackpool .. explore the Lake District go mushroom hunting .. Fly kites on new years day in Chester..all of these things you will miss not seeing x The women you meet at coffee mornings will be envious of your lifestyle .. none of them are expats ... people are struggling to make ends meet ..I promise you take time to enjoy the things you have not the things you miss .. In the grand scheme of things there is possibly only 18months left of your posting .. Have you found a decent hairdresser/Nail Bar ? its amazing who you will meet ! Where are you staying ... maybe you can reach out to people we know who are in the same situation.. Your Dubai Friends will be envious of you .. no matter what they might say ... Christmas curled up infront of a log fire ... I'll swop ... In 16 weeks you will see crocuses and Daffodils sprouting EVERYWHERE x Bliss ! Big Hugs from across the waters !
