What can I expect to pay at the vets for 1st visit? They have been found by a mosque so will need all the shots but also don't want to turn up at the vet to be told they need all these injections and to be ripped off! So can any of you recommend me a vet in jumeriah/umm sequin area and also approx price to get the kittens healthy? They are very cute, was initially only going to get 1 but these 2 play together so couldn't separate them.

I have taken all 3 of my cats to the Municipality Vet just by Mirdif. Cost me 60Aed for the first set of shots and microchip! They are efficient and great and have never had any issues

If its any consolation, we gave 2 kittens a home about 3 years ago and honestly, we are so so happy we did. They are just wonderful company and get on so so well. Im sure Barsha vets gave us a discount on any of the treatment they needed and Im sure at that time even Feline Friends offered - not sure if this is still the case. We used to have 1 but he was so so sad by himself. When we got these 2 again we were just looking at 1 but decided to take the 2 and it was thes best decision we made! They play together, keep each other occupied and never get up to any michief in the appartment. Good on you Kiwisavvy!

So kind of you to give them a home Kiwisavvy. :D If you call the vets they will be able to tell you exactly what it will cost for standard procedures according to the weight of the kittens. Of course, there could be underlying illness or injury that would need treatment. Can I also suggest you research the cost of getting them home when it comes time to leave? They'll live for at least 12-13 years, inshallah, so it's wise to start a little 'kitty relocation fund' now. It will cost many 1000's of dhs, no matter where you move them to. If you know where your next move is likely to be, now is the time to research and prepare paperwork for quarantine etc as appropriate. DKC ( http://www.dkc.ae/ ) are always happy to give rough estimates and information on export/import requirements. edited by Green-ish on 29/09/2011

We rescued a kitten about 12 days ago. Took her to Safa last week and they think she is about 6 weeks old. She needed the de-worming shot and some antibiotics as she has a cut on her leg and a general check up. It was in the range of AED 300. Will be taking her and our dog back the middle of next month for all of their shots. Safa really are the best!

It's possible that if you take the kittens to the Al Barsha vet clinic they will give you the Feline Friends discount for neutering them. When we rescued our cats we told the vet the cats were from the street and we were automatically charged the discount level (about 300 AED each). This was a few years ago so it might be different now.

We just opened our door two nights ago, too, and wanted to warn you to be vigilant with the kitties. The little one my family found on the street outside (screaming for hunger) vomited a large amount of plastic bag. She must have been driven by hunger to eat it, as she came in stinking like the street bin. Poor baby. I'm watching her now for signs of intestinal blockage. :(

And don't forget the price of spaying/neutering them when they are old enough - spaying is usually more expensive than neutering.

Second AS on Al Safa Vets. They are are brilliant and not expensive.Milk is deadly for cats, especially kittens. Dry food is better for the gums and teeth. As young as 6 weeks old, kittens can eat dry special food (available at the vets) mixed with water. From 10 weeks mine was on normal dry food. When you take your kitties, the vet will give you some de-worming and injections when they are 8 weeks and boosters a few weeks later.Sorry cannot remember the cost (includes rabbies, feline flue and leukemia). edited by fjcruiser on 28/09/2011

Ok that's great ladies thanks. I havent had cats for years and things have changed! Is it true that you should only give them dried food no jelly meat? Milk or water? :\: Well they definitely need water, they can eat wet food too, but milk isn't great for cats...

I highly recommend Al Safa Vets on Al Wasl Road. http://www.safavets.com/ if you call them tomorrow they should be able to give you the cost for the initial visit, not sure what injections they'd need or what treatment they might need as I think you would need a vet to see them, but I can tell you they definitely won't try and rip you off, they're really good there.

I think it'll be in the region of 600 dhs for both. If you go to Al Barsha vets they normally give a bit of a discount for rescues and rehomed animals.
