I am looking at remodeling our kitchen in AR. Anyone who has installed IKEA kitchen using 3rd party granite countertop? Does IKEA particleboard carcass hold up to the weight of granite top? I like the modern look of IKEA kitchen system and of course the price is unbeatable.

I asked the IKEA staff and was told that the 25 years warranty is only for the kitchen frame, doesn't apply to the doors or hinges. Anyone has experience with IKEA kitchen? Any comments or feedback will be helpful.

Hello! I know this is a very late reply. Not even sure if you check your account hehe. I am also looking to remodel my kitchen, but I need a good contractor that doesn't suck out all of my money. Would you by any chance still have the number of the contractor you used? Thanks :)

Unfortunately, no. We had to organise for someone to come in and remove the old kitchen. DH sorted that out, as well as the granite countertop. I'm not sure which companies he used. The granite was charged based on measurements plus the cutting/labour/installation. We were given a whole range of prices depending on whether we wanted the inexpensive granite for a couple of thousand Dhs or the more costly ones that were Dhs 10,000+. I don't have any integrated appliances from IKEA. I used my existing appliances and they measured around those. Thanks for the details Rawla, would really appreciate knowing more details about who took out your previous kitchen and who fit your granite. Also has anyone got their flooring replaced at the same time? Looking for reasonable services to do that. Thank you edited by kalkoul99 on 31/07/2014

Does anybody have any idea where bathrooms at a reasonable price can be purchased from?

Hi Did IKEA remove your current kitchen? Where did you buy your granite work top from and do you mind me asking how much it was? Did you have any integrated appliances from IKEA? Thanks

Thanks, Rawla for your feedback. That's really helpful. Bits and pieces of the kitchen coming in at different times over a few months must be a pain. However, with IKEA price, I guess it is worth the wait.

I had an IKEA kitchen put in last year and the granite countertop done by a 3rd party, so yes, it is doable! IKEA were generally great except for items out of stock. You will need to make an appointment with an IKEA designer and pay a Dhs 500 (refundable fee). They then come over and take the measurements at your home, following which you go to your appointment, select the kitchen you want, mixing and matching the different options. I think what TB meant by the "sides" is the empty space if the cupboards don't take up the whole wall, since their cupboard sizes are standard. What they do there is just put a fake panel so it looks like it's part of the cupboards. The biggest challenge is the stock because after your kitchen has been designed and all the items are listed, there is a very good chance not all of them will be in stock! In my case about 80% of them were, which the salesman said was actually quite good. You then go and pay for the kitchen and they book a date to the installation (can be weeks later coz they're quite busy). They book two days, but mine was installed in one - very efficiently! The workmen were really great. I did have a problem with different shades on some of the doors and I later found out that was because they are not all supplied by the same company! Some doors come from a supplier in one country, for example, and others from from a supplier in another country. After the kitchen was installed, they refunded me the payment I made for the design and over the next couple of months they followed up with the remaining 20% of the items as they became available (drawer handles, "skirting", the closing mechanisms that prevent slamming, etc.). It was a pain because I had to keep calling to check if things were in stock and then book appointments to have them installed at different times. That was the only negative, but considering I paid Dhs 11,000 for an amazing new kitchen, it was worth it. Also a warning that they do not connect the sink plumbing so you will have to get a plumber in to do that. As for the granite countertop, on the day that the kitchen was installed a company came in and took the measurements. A few days later they installed the countertop. The IKEA kitchen is very much able to hold the weight! Good luck with you new kitchen! I'm sure it will look fantastic.

Hi Tattie, I thought IKEA does the installation, i could be wrong. What do you mean the sides? I was thinking of getting the whole kitchen system from IKEA without the appliances. And buy the granite top somewhere else.

Hi, I'm also interested in kitchens/cupboards from Ikea but Ikea don't fit them, or do they? And what do you do with the sides? I had a quote last week from another company but thought it was a bit expensive. edited by Tattie Bogle on 27/07/2014
