Askm Ladies
Please can anyone give me any advice on which Islamic centers do Arabic for beginners? I am a native English speaker and have looked at a few options but I am unsure what is the best option for me. I cant read or speak any Arabic (other than what is needed for prayer) and I want to start learning fully. I have tried to contact Kalemah but no reply and I have heard that Huda sisters is good but do they let you join anytime? Advice please! JAK :-)

As-salaamu alaykum, definitely good information to know. Just moved to Dubai and have been looking for information like this. Also, I'm no expert, but in terms of spoken Arabic (for Muslims or non-Muslims), modern standard Arabic is more like Classical Arabic (fus-ha, the highest level of which is used in the Qur'an) than Egyptian (my Egyptian friends won't mind if I say Egyptian Arabic is far from standard, hehe). It just has less grammatical detail and more modern vocabulary/usage (ex/ Al Jazeera Arabic anchors use modern standard Arabic, foregoing their native dialects). Mainly so any Arab can understand it and use some sort of "standard." ' edited by treehuggingmuslim on 09/02/2014

Kalemah ctr in Mirdif advertised a course for young girls [url='>http://www.kalemah.org/precious-muslimah[/url'> There's also Ro'yati Center in Nadd al Hamar, they have Saturday morning classes for pre teens.

Umm Suqquim. I looked up some of the other places, but they didn't specifically mention it. Its best you go to the centers and ask. I know JILC mentioned below do classes on Sat mornings. Al Manar near Bowling Centre do classes on Friday mornings. Al Huda also Saturday mornings.

On a slightly different note, I am looking for a person/place/school to teach pre-teens and teenage girls, who have some islamic knowledge, how to pray. I'm going to check out Al Huda Sisters, but is there anyone or anywhere else? The same centers I have mentioned in a previous post will all do classes for pre-teens and kids. Where do you live?

Hi ladies, can you please tell me which one of these centers is the nearest to Dubai Marina? I am VERY interested in learning Arabic, but unfortunately I can't afford a tutor. Thanks in advance :) Most of these are in the same area, but just want to know: Are you looking to study conversational Arabic in new standard Arabic or do you want to be able to read and understand Quran, which is classic Arabic (fus'ha)? Hi, thanks for response, I would like to learn conversational Arabic, because I really like the sound of the language and it simply my desire to speak the language of this fabulous country. I am not a Muslim, so reading of Quran is not my priority. Ok, so then the above mentioned centres will not apply to you, as they offer the classical Arabic classes. That's because all of the ones mentioned are Islamic Centers. I am not sure where you would find free Arabic courses to be honest. Most of them would be through Language Centers such as Eton or the Arabic Language Center. What you could do is look for online Arabic courses, some of them will be for free. Sorry I can't help you any more than this :( And I wanted to add, if you are looking to speak the locally spoken Arabic, you would look for Khaleeji Arabic, which is very different from standard Arabic. There are many different dialects in the Arabic language, such as Egyptian (which I think is now the "new standard Arabic", Levant Arabic (Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan), North African (Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria etc) and the Khaleeji (Gulf). edited by Marroosh on 06/02/2014

Assalamu alaikum, I can read and write arabic, but don't understand it. So I've been going to Al huda sisters since September. The class is called arabic grammer and their Arabic teacher is excellent, I really enjoy learning arabic. But the course started in September, so I'm not sure how easy it would be to catch up, although the text book we are using in class has most details written which is taught in class.

emilyjem if you like I can add you to our sisters group on whatsapp so you can meet new sisters and be in the loop about classes. Just email me on username _dubai at yahoo . com. As for Quran class, Al Huda has an excellent tafseer class on Sunday, which is the explanation of the Quran. If you like to learn how to memorize, I advice you to work on reading Arabic first, as that is sually a prerequisite in order to take tajweed classes. If you like to get in touch drop me a line and I will introduce you to my wonderful sisters :)

Thanks Marroosh and BintyBibbs - I am a convert Yes since 1 year but I just recently started to feel ready to take on my learning process outside of my home. So far I managed with the help of friends and online, but I want to meet some like minded sisters also and to start Arabic so that I can read Quran properly (also looking for beginners Quran and/or any support groups/events for new muslims to increase my knowledge). I spoke now with Kalemah they said its not possible to start any classes until September which is disappointing. I think I will try to go to Al Farooq Centre, I saw on their website that beginners Arabic is 3 times a week. Do I have to go all 3 times or is it the choice of 1 of the 3? Have tried to call them but no answer! Al Manar told me to come on Sunday AM to speak to Miss Aisha. Do any of you have a contact for Jumeirah Islamic Centre as they are also not replying! Thanks Thank you so much for your advice :-) edited by emilyjem on 06/02/2014

Waalaykum salam emilyjem. Hope youre well. Alhamdulilah may Allah always keep you on the straight path ameen. I know that Huda sisters have classes which are open and you can just go and attend whenever. They also have classes which you have to register for. All the info is on their blog if you just google it. What about manara quran centre or jumeirah islamic centre? Inshallah you'll find a class that suits. Are you a convert by the way? Xx

Wa aleykum salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu, I just got off the phone with the Al Farooq Center, which is in the Al Farooq Masjid in Umm Suqeim. They offer Arabic classes for beginners and advanced: http://alfarooqcentre.com/en/activity/en-US/2/31/arabic-classes-beginners-advance They also offer Quran memorization. There is Al Huda Sisters, ladies only, and they offer Arabic, Quran, Islamic classes in English and Arabic: Alhuda.wordpress.com, also in Umm Suqeim, close to the J3 Mall. There is JILC on Al Was Road, near the Spinneys. I attend a Tajweed class there on Saturday morning, they also offer a general lecture on Thursday evening. I am not sure about Arabic classes there. Al Manar center, close to the Dubai Bowling, offers Arabic and Islamic studies: http://www.almanarcentre.com/ Kalemah in Muhaisnah offers different classes, I am planning to start the Principles of Islamic Studies there, which is on Friday and Saturday morning, very early! http://www.kalemah.org/calendar I don't know where you live, and whether you are working or not, but it seems many classes are during the day. Fortunately the Al Farooq Center is very close to my work and I finish at 3 so works very well. edited by Marroosh on 06/02/2014
