Sadly I find that the larger blocks of C.D.M. fruit and nut (Carrefour M.O.E.) taste every bit as good as back home. No complaints. However I know that Cadburys is not up to everyones taste. I guess it depends what you were brought up on!

Love my Double Deckers. So glad that Park n Shop sell them! BTW, what's with the 'Mackintosh' Quality Street over here? I know they used to be the manufacturers before nasty Nestle got their hands on them but how come they're branded with the old company name and the flavours are sooo boring? They're nearly as bad as those tasteless Jewels, eurghh! I will finish my chocolate rant by asking, why can't you get Thorntons chocolate coated toffees here? Waitrose quite often sell them, they're called Thornton's Toffee Chocs (orange and brown bag), usually where the hanging bags of sweets are on the confectionary aisle. I used to buy them all the time, but they are really rather dangerous ;-) so I haven't looked for a few months, but you most definitely used to be able to get them.

I asked my cousin who is a chemical engineer (?) for Mars this exact question... He replied that the recipes for each country are tweaked for local tastes which is why the same product nearly always taste different in different countries, and that generally what you prefer is what you have grown up with.

The only chocolate that tastes 'real' without the higher melting point, is the range of Easter Eggs sold here. roll on March! Irn Bru doesn't taste the same either. Apparently it is canned in the M.E. instead of in the UK because of a banned ingredient here. Anyway, if it's not in a glass bottle and made with Scottish water it's rubbish. :D (It's true!). Also will someone please tell chip shops here that chips & cheese has to be made with REAL cheese and not Kraft/plastic cheese.

I don't buy any chocolate that's not imported, it has a horrible aftertaste. We got some huge bars of mint aeros this morning on sale, and we did get the choc covered Thornton toffees but around christmas time last year and I havent seen them too often since! Imported m&ms are not hard to find, there's a taste difference in them as well.

It's definitely the butter they use which apparently has a higher melting point..personally i'd rather they made it properly and let me take my chances !! lol

I second whittakers but I am a little biased being a kiwi!! The hokey pokey bar and the peanut slab are really good also!! Geant also sells it now. Think I have seen some Thornton toffees at Waitrose Marina Mall as you walk to the checkout recently?? I've seen the normal Thortons toffee but not the chocolate coated stuff. At least my teeth are thankful for that even if I'm not! :)

Try Whittakers chocolate. I had almost given up on chocolate until I found this :) We've found it mainly in Spinneys and Choitrams

Its the same as in India, someone mentioned that the milk we use in the UK is different to other countries. I miss my Wispa and Mint Aeros.. only thing that taste the same to me here is bounty and M&MS You can buy mint Aeros ( from the UK) in Spinneys and in Park n Shop, Al Maya at al Murooj and Choitrams. I have also seen Wispas in Al Maya and I think Park n Shop ( all from the UK - the chocs from the UK are in a cluster usually at the end of the choc counters) ETA the ones imported from the UK are more expensive but worth it for the taste ( compared the equivalents made regionally) edited by Genie on 02/11/2014 Ohh, thank you.. will look out for them next time I shop at spinneys..:-)

Oh is it made with long life milk and not fresh milk? That would do it - vile stuff.

It is different, I'm not sure if it's anti melt, the water or the milk. On the cadbury front don't buy the stuff that's made locally ish (Egypt I think) buy the stuff that has Made in UK on it. A totally different taste.

Yup it is different as it has anti melting agents added. Not the same. edited by FairyDust on 02/11/2014

Just wondered if anyone else had this problem? I miss the chocolates back home! Does it contain anti melt? perhaps that is why I know what you mean. Cadburys bars seem to taste better at home :-)
