I thought it very weak and not even close to their usual standards. Costumes and set very poor. As for age suitability, I didn't see the age advice and probably would have assumed that in saying "from 5 years" they meant OK for a very young audience as per their other childrens shows. There's not really much difference in what's OK for a 3 year old and a five year old! Really I think it was better suited to an audience of 8+. Point taken about Rudyard Kipling, but a title of Jungle Book surely warrants a bit more clarification when the Disney version is by far the more well known version ( sad perhaps, but true).

have to agree that we really enjoyed the show apart from the audience!!! luckily we were close to front, but I the found the relentless chatter and shouting out by the younger members of the audience quite distracting. its a shame that the theatre were not clearer on the target audience as it was a great production for upper primary/junior school kids

Agree with 1972nessie - enjoyed the show with my 9 and 11-year old who did as well, but it really was difficult to hear the dialogue/songs with all the racket from the young ones. Madinat's site clearly says the play was for ages 5+ yet there were a significant number of children younger than that today. And kids will be kids so can't blame them for not having the attention span necessary to enjoy a 2.5 hour production. What I don't get are the parents who insist on keeping them in the theatre, disturbing everyone else. We have all gone on about young people talking on their mobiles in the cinema but when that happens, it may be one or 2 people doing it. This afternoon, there were tens of young children making a racket. Really did do my head in!

I took my 2.5yr old today & was a little disapointed as was expecting the disney songs etc. They did state at the start it was aimed at 5yr olds +, but a bit late by then!

I took my 3.5 year old and admit I didn't look at the age suitability...however, my daughter really enjoyed it and even though she couldn't grasp all of it was (quietly) asking me questions through it. She isn't an intellectual powerhouse or anything (!) but did love the songs, the characters etc. I actually liked the way it wasn't disneyfied (although had it been would have loved a bit of bear necessities!!) and I did appreciate the way it stayed truer to Kipling's original. I do have to say that I think it is madness to take babies of the mobile variety to these things - my little one stayed at home. They don't have the staying power for it and it isn't much fun for anyone else there either....

been today with my 9 year old and 5 year old and we all really enjoyed it. there must have been must have been a few disappointed customers as most of the seats around us were empty after the interval. I must admit the crying babies and screaming toddlers were doing my head in as parents continued to keep them in the theatre. I wouldnt have dreamt of keeping my children in if they were making as much noise as these ones were today. RANT over!!!!!!

yes I have taken it up with the theatre as I think they mis-sold it, they need to state clearly that this is not fun for all the children! such a shame as i love going to the theatre and now my kids have a negative impression of it! it was only half full yest...

Thank you for the feedback ladies! I'll definitely not take my 3 year old. Perhaps the details on the madinat theatre website should be more explicit as to it's suitability.quote'> Yes I agree with that too, it should clearly state at the time they put it on sale the age range and not now after tickets have been brought! Sorry to hear you've already bought the tickets! Might be worth putting them on EW for sale - I tried to book for Sat and it was full.... Then I thought I'd better ask the EW ladies what it was like as I couldnt find any reviews or info.

I love supporting the arts and would really like to take my DD to more but at AED 120 for kids and AED 140 for adults it isnt worth the risk of staying 5 minutes!

I thought that I might remind you ladies that Jungle Book was written by Rudyard Kipling, not Disney!! This production is an adaptation of the original version not Disney as all their songs are copyrighted. Its had rave reviews in UK and has travelled around schools and theatres there. How do I know all this? My friend is the Director and Producer in UK of this show. I'm sorry you didn't anjoy it though.

sorry to disappoint but it's definitely not suitable, not even for 5 yr olds i would think! I wasted AED520 yesterday to stay all of 5 mins in the show - its a weird kind of avant guarde interpretation.....not fun at all. My friend who stayed a bit longer but still left before the end said there were none of the songs you would expect, and at one point they even had a knife out to slit the tiger's throat. Weird weird, so so disappointing esp as both DH and I left work early to take kids there who were super excited expecting to march with the elephants and sing along to all the songs! Thanks for posting JulesLC. Sorry about your wasted $$$$
