I have been feeling feverish for the past few days, and have pain in the flank (mid-back) area especially in the mornings. It feels a bit better if i wrap a warm towel around my waist.
My mind is sort of hazy too, maybe due to fever? I have been perfectly fine and this started out of nowhere...
I had pyelonephritis as a child and i`m thinking maybe it`s flaring up again...

Thank you for your help.

Thank you all :) Yep, i`m feeling a lot better, temperature is 37.4 which is basically normal, hopefully it`s the end of story. [b'>summerdream[/b'>, because of your earlier posts, i did note down contacts/directions to Rashid hospital. It`s always good to have it even if i won`t be needing it this time. Honestly speaking, i wasn`t considering government hospital as an option, and i have been living in Dubai a decade! So the information i find on EW is kind of priceless really. Right, i don`t have medical insurance. I`m currently unemployed and feel guilty for being a burden on DH.

Hope you are on your way to recovery. It seems you do not have medical insurance. If so, I would recommend if you need hospitalisation to go to goverment hospital Rashid/Dubai Hospital. It works out substantially cheaper and they have more experience handling these cases. eta: Anyway given you don't seem too bad at the moment, it may be resolved at home with a good course of antibiotics prescribed from a doc who knows what he she is doing. edited by summerdream on 17/08/2011

An indication to you if it is this is may be if you have had urine infection (burning etc) that you have left untreated. Its usually this that leads to the infection. This is the only symptom which i don`t have, so i was hoping this isn`t it... They got me to the hospital unconscious when i had pyelonephritis before. It was pretty bad, i was hospitalized for maybe a month or so. But it happened more then 20 years ago, so i wasn`t expecting it now... You are all scaring me to be honest. I was hoping that maybe there is some kind of home treatment or something, like antibiotics.. I will wait for DH to come home. It`s so awful! Going to the hospital means thousands and thousands of dhs will have to be spent again!!! :(

I don't know what this is, but it doesn't sound good. Get yourself checked out at least know what you are dealing with!

If you don't think you need to go straight to hospital, the Urologist based at Dubai Mall Medical centre is superb and he will see you straight away. They have fantastic facilities there.

That's two of us now saying the same - go to a hospital ASAP.

You may know that this condition can be fatal if left to itself. I know because I nearly died of it years ago - as I had reached the stage where I had the highest fevers possible in a human being (!) and chills and the infection had got into my blood. An indication to you if it is this is may be if you have had urine infection (burning etc) that you have left untreated. Its usually this that leads to the infection. Please go to a hospital. I was diagnosed at Rashid and transferred to Dubai hospital for recovery. Don't get to my stage I spent almost 2 weeks in hospital.

Go straight to the ER. I had pyelonephritis a few years back (exactly the same symptoms as you) and it was just luck that I got to the hospital before sepsis set in - which leads to loss of limbs and other horrible, horrible things.
