I have loads of recipes I could email you, as I've been cooking it for the last 10 years. I don't have any books, just recipes I learned from MIL and friends of hubby. I would search online as there are some excellent recipes out there, and back yourself up watching them being cooked on You Tube. I believe that watching it being made makes it alot easier to get the gist of it.
Not really. I own 5 but have had disasters with all of them! I own "Food from Biblical Lands" by Helen Corey; "Lebanese Cookbook" by Dawn, Elaine and Selwa Anthony; "Anahid's Gourmet Cookbook" by Anahid Doniguian; "Stuffed Vine Leaves Saved My Life" by Nadia Sawalha (bargain book); "Mediterranean Street Food" by Anissa Helou. I rely most on Anahid's Gourmet Cookbook (her Lebanese and Armenian recipes seem most like the food my husband's Lebanese relatives cook) and "Food from Biblical Lands" even though Helen Corey's family is Syrian but her recipes resemble my mother in law's Egyptian cooking, esp in absence of fresh herbs and spices. Luckily my dad loves to read the food sections of newspapers so he emails me a weekly digest of recipes to try out , and he sends me links to Arabic cooking websites and blogs. I really like www.desertcandy.com, www.yasalamcooking.com and www.dirtykitchensecrets.com, and the cooking page called Sultan's Kitchen on a forum called www.visajourney.com
DH eats a lot of disastrous versions of his mom's, dad's and aunts' cooking (he comes from a multi-country Arab family!) before I adjust the cookbook or website recipe to his taste.
My friends rely on Complete Book of Middle Eastern cooking by Tess Mallos but i never bought it and it seems a bit late after 5 Arab cookbooks and some other Middle Eastern cookbooks (Iranian, Moroccan, 2 Turkish, 3 general Med, 1 Khaleeji) on the shelf.
