Live out Nanny Contract

Hi ladies,
I'm about to hire my first live out nanny/maid and am unsure on a few things:

1. Is there a standard contract that's normally typed/printed and signed by both or where would I find this?

2. She has agreed to babysitting 1-2 evenings per week if required, we might not need her every week but would you consider being out until 1-2am the odd time too late or should you be home by let's say 12 if she can't stay over. (We would obviously pay her taxi home) Also, any evenings mid week I can let her go home early I will, I am happy to be flexible.

3. She did mention about being able to take one month holiday in one go but we explained as we both work it would be impossible for us to get that time off so the most she could take in one go would be 2 weeks - preferably while we are on vacation also, she seemed fine with this but is that normal with other maids, to take one month holiday all at once? I take the view I wouldn't get one month holiday from my job so I would look on this as the same.

4. How much is standard medical packages for maids or where would I go to get one, is there a particular company to use?

5. Is there such thing as probation on a contract, if it wasn't working after 6 months is it a case that you just have to live with the loss of the sponsorship costs and start again ?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just new to all this!

Many thanks oopsiedaisy, that's all very helpful especially the contract link. With regard to the babysitting, I agree, if ever there was an occasion that it was a late night 1-2am) I would ensure she would have a full 2 days off following it - I was just curious to know if people would normally return by a certain time if out. Thank you :-)

1. There are several (standard) contracts, they may vary per nationality. Here's a link to the one we use (provided to us by DH!s employer , we use it for our philipino maid and the embassy is fine with it) . By the way, it mentions a duration of 2 years, but since you have to renew her visa every year you'll need to have a new contract every year. http://www.bdembassyuae.org/forms/Employment%20Agreement%20between%20Domestic%20Workers%20and%20Sponsor%20English.pdf 2. I wouldn't let her stay until 2 am on a regular basis (and then commute to her home) if I needed her to be back at work early next morning. Personally I think she needs at least 8 hours rest, so do I. I wouldn't mind on occasion, but once or twice a week, even if it isn't every week is too much. 3. Most maids do indeed take one month holiday at a time. The reason for this is that most of them want to go visit their family back home. And keep in mind that for them that often means their children! We all have our kids here and we can afford many little breaks with them, and visit parents etc. on occasion. There's a huge difference. The maids get one ticket each year and most want to spend that ticket for a month vacation with their children. 4. Medical package is anything you choose, between 1000 to 3000 per year. You will find many threads on it. Noor Takaful used to do it, Daman, AXA. You'll just have to shop around. 4. No probation on the contract. If after 6 month you decide it doesn't work out, you will loose your sponsorship costs.
