I went to a well known chain 2 days ago for a basic manicure. The next day a few of my nails started to peel/ break from low on the skin. Now it's 6 nails that are ripping off low. They are natural nails and I get manicures once or twice a month. I have never had this happen and don't know what this is occurring. This was my first time having a manicure there. Any advice ? Maybe something they used ? What products can help them grow back strong and fast

I don't understand where you are saying the nails are breaking, but one time at my regular place, I had a different girl as mine was busy--and 3 of my nails broke off in days. She was filing them back and forth, and sometimes this can cause it. You are supposed to start from the outside of the free edge and file inward, never back and forth--single direction. If they take too much off the top layer to remove ridges with a buffer, then obviously this wears them down too. Some techs also are slower than others, so make sure they don't expect you to soak one hand for too long while they are working on the other. If you soak too long this can cause stress when they file the free edge. Nail tek is a pretty good product for strengthening in between polishes; I have seen it at the Nail Spa I think--whatever is in Marina Mall.

I've cut back my manicures to about every six weeks and just have a polish change every couple of weeks or so and that seems to have helped.

I usually get manicures once or twice a month, remove polish after a week , let them breathe a bit and than use OPI nail envy. My diet has not changed either. I just found it odd ( and annoying) that now 8 of my nails are broken and very short within days of a manicure. I have removed my polish and the natural nail color is normal. Just stubby fingers now. Thank you for the feedback and I will try Vitry and Jessica

I bought a Jessica base coat to strengthen my nails and quite often just wear that in between polishes. I have found that wearing a couple of coats and no colour on top has definitely done my nails some good. it's strange though as my toe nails are very strong, so I have discounted having something deficient in my diet as the cause.

I use 'Vitry' to strengthen my nails and have had great results. I apply a colour over it. 'Vitry' is only available in pharmacies and I usually get mine in Life Pharmacy. Costs about 45 dhs.

Maybe you just need to give your nails a break. If you constantly have manicures and constantly have polish on, it does weaken the nails. Sometimes they just need to be allowed to breathe.

Some sort of fungus? Take off your polish and see what color your nails are ...

I highly doubt a manicure will make your nails break and rip off. Perhaps your nails are just getting weaker due to lack of vitamins and minerals?
