Hi
I've got a one-year-old son and I'm looking for a nanny for occasional afternoons and evenings. Currently we don't need a full time nanny, which makes it tricky with agencies, as unless full time, they can't guarantee that they always send the same person...

Does anyone have a nanny or knows someone in the Downtown area who may be willing to do a few extra evenings a months and potentially a few afternoons? (the little boy is in nursery three mornings a week, and I may have some ad hoc full day work)

We are likely to need someone full time from next summer - if there is someone who knows they are going to leave Dubai then and in the meanwhile wouldn't mind if their nanny did a bit of extra work every now and then, I'd love to hear from you. It would be great to take someone on in summer who we know a bit by then. This would be the ideal situation. But any thoughts on reliable occasional childcare would be appreciated.

Many thanks!

Thanks very much for all the responses! I have heard about 'nannies always looking for jobs', but I didn't know it was illegal. And to be honest I didn't even think about this aspect. I guess I could try to look for a babysitter - someone who doesn't do childcare as her profession? Thanks again This is also illegal and not covered by insurance incase of accident/theft etc

Also illegal I'm afraid. Anybody paid by you (ie employed) must be sponsored by you, or contracted through a legal agency. HTH.

Some time ago I heard on this forum about Fairy Godmothers, they might be your solution at least they could probably give you advise. Here is the link to the thread http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic198131-fairy-godmother-club-dubai.aspx I know how you must feel. Been there , done that :) Good Luck!

It's not cheap employing staff here and all the paperwork etc is quite bothersome so I doubt that having gone through all that anyone would be prepared to give their maid time off so that they can work for someone else...especially as it would be illegal anyway.. Your only legal option is to go to an agency or sponsor a full time maid yourself... sorry.

It is illegal to share a nanny/maid in the UAE If the said nanny/maid is caught moonlighting with another employer her sponsor would incur a huge fine and said person could also be deported. You would also not be insured If the nanny/maid stole from you etc You couldn't report her to the police as you would be in trouble for hiring someone who isn't sponsored by you Agency is the only safe route edited by sarahlou123 on 06/11/2013

I understand what you are looking for but I dont think you will get much of a response as what you are proposing is illegal and a risk for the current employer, the nanny and you. Its a tough one....... Hope you can find a solution...... could you keep your son in nursery occasional afternoons when you have to work? For evenings - maybe a friend could help you out from time to time? Good luck!
