Application sent on 7 June, reached 9 June, payment taken on 29 June. How long after should we wait? LO became sick and had to pay all the expenses cuz no passport and no insurance. I am sick of waiting. Does contacting the ppl there make the process any faster?

I emailed the generic address as I sent DS passport 3 weeks ago 17th June - and not had payment go through yet, we really would like to go away at beginning of August. We only found out of the 8 week delay two days after sending passport. I was very surprised to receive the below reply within 2 HOURS!!!Lets hope they are true to their word! The fee has been debited from your account, and the passport is being processed. We are trying to process this within the next two days, in order to send the new passport back as soon as possible. To Sugarbeach - let's hope for Monday together! To bits - credit card was debited on 14th June (3.5 weeks after they got it). The newspaper articles that have been posted on the previous thread were saying 8 weeks from debit, but assuming I get mine next week, it will be 8 wks total, not from card debit. Fingers crossed for all :-)

I sent mine on 14th May, got charged on credit card on 24th May, passport issued on 24th June and received it by courier the beginning of this week. 7 weeks after I sent it to them. How this system is better or cheaper or safer than getting them through the Embassy I really don't know.

[b'>I sent mine off just over 7 weeks ago (24th May) and today bit the bullet, got my credit card out and called the UK helpline for the first time. They told me pp is through the checking stage and approved, now in queue for printing - apparently 2-day process currently. I was told I will receive it by Monday next week and if I don't I should call back. The guy did explain that the backlog issue is in processing/ checking the applications, not in the actual making of the pp. The oh-so-pricey info line was very helpful and polite, just hope he's right and I will get next week as promised! If I had known, would definitely have done as BellaUK advises and waited to travel to UK to use the 1day service - this is the only way to avoid the 8 week wait...[/b'> HAve you had your credit card charged? and if so when? thanks

Here is the link: http://ukingermany.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/how-to-apply/united-arab-emirates It's about half way down the page. Last update was in June according to this though.

I submitted my application via DHL on the 15th June, it arrived 18th in Dusseldorf. Happy days. THEN a friend directed me to the website (she's in the exact same position as me) to say they were experiencing 8 week delays and had brought in extra staff to cope with the extra demand. Several calls later, all charged to my credit card, they confirmed yesterday that they haven't in fact started my application (!) and will send it back at my expense. I am now waiting.... I need a new passport to get to the States in August so am stressing but will definitely do the one day service in London en route. Don't do it if you need to travel anywhere soon. Oh yes, once your passport is in 'the system' and your credit card has been charged, its almost impossible to recall your application. The minimum of 8 weeks turnaround was a huge shock - I did passports for my kids 4 months ago and I got them back in 10 days. Can u send the link to say about the 8 week delay....i;ve been on, bu tcant see it. thanks

WM - I sent mine on the exact same day as you. Let's see if we get ours back at the same time....even though I made quite a few costly phone calls I think it made sod all difference.

I sent an email to their generic contact email address () never expecting to get a response. A chap called Alan responded a day later. Alan Rowlands | Passport Examiner | British Consulate General Dusseldorf | Yorckstrasse 19, 40476 Düsseldorf|  email: |  fax: +49-211-488190  ftn: 8344 2224  url: www.ukingermany.fco.gov.uk If others see this post and decide to email, maybe try the generic one first, as I know it was mentioned earlier in this post that direct emails to people at the Consulate actually can slow down the process. It also seems from previous posts that calling has had good results. Good luck! :) edited by amelia2486 on 05/07/2011

Amelia, hi. What email address did you use to contact embassy in Dusseldorf? I might just email them to see where my passport is as they promised to courier it back to me and I'm still waiting. Am starting to stress!

I am going to Bali and Hong Kong as of the 18th August, and have no blank pages left in my passport. I emailed the consulate in Dusseldorf to see what their advice was, and if they have a fasttrack service (i was willing to pay!) and this was the response today (5/7/11): "Good Morning, I’m afraid that we still have a huge backlog, and if you sent your passport in now, we just couldn’t guarantee getting it back to you on time for your travels on the 18th August. I’m afraid we don’t have any fast track system." I dont suppose anyone knows if it will be a problem that I dont have full blank pages? I have space for stamps and am hoping this will be adequate as going to the UK isnt an option! I did have one other idea - If you have a very nice family member or friend in the UK - you could courier your passport and pictures to them, and get them to fill out the application form for you. The post office does a "check and send" service for £8, which means the passport gets fasttracked, and it looks like processing time is 2 weeks. I haven't tried this so dont hold me to it - but an idea that i was defintiely considering.

If you are planning a trip home at all, just do it there if you can. I used the Premium 1 Days service which was super quick and efficient. So glad I am not stuck without a passport for god knows how long, as you just never know what is around the corner and when you might need it. It costs about the same as it would be to renew from here anyway!! Its for my babies 1st passport..... and we didnt think there would b a back log.... was thinking of going anyway and doing the way u suggested...but her original birth certificate is now is dusseldorf :( no summer hols for me this year i fear... :(
