Can anyone please advise who I can contact to try and stop the ongoing crashing and banging til way past midnight on the huge construction site opposite us?

Queues of trucks are turning up for the 2nd night in a row and offloading in the dark. Then they trundle off and come back again. It's doing my head in - I can put up with the noise in the daytime but this time of night it's unacceptable IMO.

I thought there were rules and regs but don't know where to start looking.

Well done October for taking action. Now can you contact the airlines - E K and get them to lower their prices please although those who work for them may not be too happy about it. I assume you have seen the thread re E K .

great thanks again - had crossed my mind to find that out - maybe EW needs to make a tab on how to make complaints with useful contact numbers :)

oh october forgot to mention try to get the street and plot number of the construction site. that makes it easier for them to pin point the exact problem when you ring up. and call them when they wake you. it has to be at the time of the noise. good luck and i hope you get good results and decent sleep.

thanks fairwater, that's a real help - I will put the number by my bed just in case! That sounds like a much better system than having to drive up the road to find a police car at midnight, to see the car driving down the other side of the road looking for you! Fortunately he stopped and I caught up with him! I must say though that the police were incredibly helpful, and I was there when they spoke to the nightwatchmen too which was all handled very professionally - I pity the guys there this morning when the foreman turned up to find nothing had been done in the wee small hours though, and just hope they don't apply for a night permit. They tend to start up at 6.30am which, while not ideal, is acceptable - I'm a 7am girl - and like you say 8pm is fine too, even 9, but no later please!

we had problems with construction starting at 4.30am of a morning last year. we were given this number to ring building noise complaints 800 900 - then press 1 - then press 2 ( this is 24 hour number ) they send out an inspector immediately. then they call you back at a reasonable time to ask if the noise has stopped. the building construction tried it on about 3 times then they were forced to stop work twice for nearly 2 weeks at a time. then when they started again they started at the proper allowed time. cant remember now if it was 6am or 6.30am till 8pm at night. fine by me. we have had no problems since.

This was so annoying in our last apartment that it forced us to move out, however 2 weeks after leaving they closed the site down and it has sat deserted ever since! Typical

Good for you! I really hope that they stop making the noise at night now, I know how frustrating it is. We have a problem with construction noise early in the mornings, not a major issue during the week but so annoying on Friday mornings! They start banging as soon as it gets light, it seems they are deliberately making as much noise as they possibly can to wake up everyone in the neighbourhood! Do you know what the rules are, what time they are allowed to start making a noise etc. Also, which number did you call to report it? Thanks!

well, I got a result! Rang the police, spoke to 4 people before the right one. He sent me a police car, which I had to meet and show the way to the site ( :\: ) - by this time it was midnight. 16 truck deliveries were due to turn up, offloading (not concrete we're not at that stage yet...), and he told them to stop, park up and wait til the morning. He even asked me what time was convenient in the morning for them to start. They had no nighttime permit. By the time I got home and to bed/sleep it was 1am! The gateman said it was only 2 nights so hopefully they'll have finished today if he was telling the truth. I know the heats starting to hit, but having the equivalent of a tin tray dropped on a tile floor right by your head 16 times from 11pm-ish is not my idea of a fun way to spend in bed! I also have a DD who has enough health problems as it is, without the added bonus of this at night. Didn't hit me til I got home that I had had a glass of wine last night and then got in the car to meet the police

I thought there were rules and regs but don't know where to start looking. unfortunately this happens, if its a concrete pour because of the temperatures in the day time, they have no option other than pouring at night, sometimes you need to pour for 12 hours non stop etc. but there are rules that they cannot go past, they have to get a permit. you will have to contact the police. soon the hours will change because of the summer working hours, they reduce the time they can work during the day, and so they then start working at night.

thank you - rang the police number - they've taken my number and I just hope they don't ring me back at 3am! Said they'd send someone round to the site. Am crossing fingers and heading to bed. Night

We live next to a new construction site which works 24/7 still at the digging out and piling stage for a huge tower block right outside our bedroom window. A stiff drink, St john's wort and ear plugs are my nightly ritual. :\:

No they're not allowed to be doing that in residential areas past a certain time. Try calling the police report line.
