absolutely fine. I called immigration as I had my flight booked 39 days later. They assured me I had 10 day grace (I think they said you would actually be fined on the 40th) When you count the days you must count the day of entry as day 1 as opposed to start counting from the following day We exited and not even a question asked.

Thanks ladies. I have heard something about a 10 day grace period but then also heard about people being taken aside for overstaying just a few days so wondering what the official position wld be.

I think your inlaws should be oké. They can probably just leave without paying any fees. I managed to do that several times. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 25/01/2012

Hi, can someone please let me know what the likely consequences would be of overstaying a visit visa by one day? Would this be a massive issue at the airport or can a fee just be paid on the way out? We recently booked flights for inlaws (british nationals) to come out in April thinking it would be one month so ok but it actually works out to 31 days. I've looked into changing the flight by one day as it didn't seem to be worth doing the visa run we usually do with them for one day but it will cost £75 per person to do the date change which is more than the cost of getting a new visa at the border. So just wondering if we will have to go through the hassle of driving them to the border again or since it's only one day if they can just pay at the airport. Extending a visa at immigration dept is even more expensive. TIA!
