Hi!

I was wondering if any of you teachers out there have a spare few minutes to offer me any advice?

I am looking to move to Dubai this summer, ideally looking for a teaching post to start in Sept 2011. I am secondary qualified with full QTS and my specialism is in PE. I would like to teach either primary or secondary PE in Dubai and have already sent out CV's and enquiring e-mails.

I am currently completing my NQT year and am set to finish this in July 2011.

I was wondering if anyone has any contacts or any information on schools in Dubai.

I am visiting Dubai this Easter hols, on April 14th for 10 days to see if I can meet or speak to any teachers for advice.

Look forward to hearing from you

L x

:)

IMHO -I would advise to be very careful of recruiters in this region... [i'>I tried to stay polite there[/i'> My experience has been that the better schools do not need to use them and hire directly or use reputable sites like TES but the [i'>not so nice[/i'> schools use recruiters. Good luck - Have you considered Qatar?

You should look at some of the sport activity providers too - check the ads around for school camps, they'll give you an idea. Many of these companies provide afterschool activities or in school activities and have several full time employees. I'm thinking Active Sports, E Sports, Australian swim academy (might not have those names exactly right sorry! - check the ads)

[i'>Why do you want to come to Dubai? What preconceptions do you have? You do realise that PE is very limited in Dubai due to timetabling restrictions and the climate? [/i'> Good grief! What an odd comment and absolutely not true! We have 11 PE teachers in our school, PE is HUGE! I wish you luck in your job search Lozzy, it's a fact that your lack of experience may count against you though.

I am a teacher here but to be honest with you most schools out in Dubai will only take teacher's who have 2 years works experience in the UK. There are some out here that will take you on but expect the salary to be lower. Dubai is a great place to work and the children are lovely. I also think that going around the schools and handing out your CV is a great idea. Let me know if you need anymore help. Good luck!

- DubaiHoneyBee, thank you for your advice! I check the TES every day and have applied to all that have come up but heard nothing back as of yet. As for WWW.Teachanywhere.com thats brilliant! I hadnt heard of it and i have now also registered myself on that! thank you very much! - cmke, thank you for being so positive! I really hope a school will give me the opportunity to prove myself! - Lady Bubbles, thanks, I am going to call some principals and explain my situation and see if I can find any teachers who would be willing to meet me in person when I get to Dubai! Im so excited to come at easter! - Loupops, Brilliant I will make sure I bring lots of copies and it is a good chance to visit all the schools I can in person! I really hope I hear back from a school soon. Thanks for all of your responses!

if you are coming to Dubai bring your cv and go around them. Most are hiring at the moment.

I am sure most schools are quite a way into recruiting by this stage, however there are always jobs coming up so it's not impossible. Most established schools in Dubai prefer their staff to have 2 years experience however with new schools opening and needing a lot of staff they may take someone with less experience. You could definitely see if you could make appointments to see schools in April, whether anything would come of it or not who knows!!! Good luck!

[ You do realise that PE is very limited in Dubai due to timetabling restrictions and the climate? Absolute tosh!!! My two kids have participated in a varied pe programme as well as a full after school extra curricular sports programme throughout their junior and secondary education. From what I have seen the pe teachers here work very hard but seem to really enjoy their jobs. Good luck with the job hunt and check on the sports facilities in the school to ensure that you could offer a full programme edited by cmke on 24/03/2011
