Hi,

We are currently living in Abu Dhabi and soon moving to Dubai as my husband has got a job . His office will be in DIP and my daughter has got a place in GEMS Royal Dubai School. We are looking Dora 2bhk nearby the school.

I was googling the places to live nearby the school or midway of DIP and school cause me and my hubby both of us drive so it won't be a major issue for picking and dropping my LO.

Could anyone pls suggest me which will the best place to live, have sorted out few-

Mirdif
Al warqaa
Dubai silicon oasis
Academic city

I have a younger daughter as well who is 2 yrs six months and need to shift to such a place where I can find a good UK curriculum nursery as well...

Pls can anyone help me to decide on the places and reviews on these places pls.

Thanks
Parul

Part of the problem is that we all pay the high school fees so expect very high standards so very few of us would give excellent reviews. There is always something that (in our eyes) could be improved. My DD is happy, all her friends are happy and they are progressing. She's 5, I want her to love school at this stage, not be able to count to 1,000 backwards, forwards and sideways. She has many, many years of education ahead of her

My DD Is at RDS and loves it. She has only done one year (FS2) but wakes up every Sunday asking if it is time to go to school. She has a countdown calendar for when she goes back. The transition they did in the last week to Year 1 was handled very well. As with a lot of schools, it is down to the teacher and she had an excellent teacher for FS2 and it appears it will be the same for Year 1. We had one or two problems but as soon as they were mentioned they were corrected very quickly and we were kept in the loop. We use a bus service to do the drop off and pick up so aren't in every day or week so communication is important. She was at Emirates British Nursery for 4 years before she went to school and it is lovely. The old deputy head moved to the branch in Motor City but she is coming back to the MIrdif branch. She is amazing, The needs of the children are her priority and she is always looking for ways to improve things for them. Yes DIP is a bit of a trek but its on the motorway so should be okay from Mirdif, you just need to time your exit out of MIrdif. Miss the window by 10 mins and the journey takes you half an hour longer.

They did years 2,3 and part of year 4 at RDS. At DESS now, and it is exactly what. I was looking for when I am paying for their education. In the short time I have see my daughter back to being focused on homework, academics and trying to achieve...not being hot housed, just in an environment that understands her capabilities and aims to get her there.

Thanks elmpark.... My LO will join year 1.... Which classes Did ur kids study in GRDS... I somehow agree to what u say about the school cause when I visited the school I didn't get a chance to meet the teachers and the kids as holidays had already started but my sixth sense as people say....could sense it..... Anyways....it's too early for me to comment.....my LO is very good academically and I would not like to compromise on the quality of education given at school...cosmetic approach is secondary for me. Will see how it goes with her.....she is already on waiting list lot.many other good schools for next year as it was a last moment decision for us to move to Dubai by that time all the admissions were closed..... But she did get a place in safa private school when she was offered a seat with GRDS... And on Thursday we got a call from kings al barsha as well for her confirmed place but we have already given the admission fees for GRDS.....so will try at least for this term/year as no option now.... Thanks a lot for ur reviews....by the way now in which school r ur kids studying!

Everyone has different opinions of schools. My own feeling (comparing to the good Ofstead rated school in England that my children attended) is that some of the teachers were providing an equivalent standard of teaching. Gems works them very hard, and there is a lot of paperwork for them to fill in. I was disappointed with the quality of teaching with different teachers, mainly due to how I felt my children were progressing in certain areas that I knew they were capable of (times tables, writing, reading) but were not being pushed to e.g. learn their tables for fast math exercise, or to complete stories etc. Staff turnover is quite high, but then a lot of the teachers are young. I know someone else who moved their child to the Al Barsha school from RDS this year but that would likely mean you would look to live over that way as it would be a huge commute. My own feeling is RDS is a lovely school, but educationally I wanted something else for my children.

Thanks Elmpark....just was curious how are the teachers and the teaching quality in GRDS....we weretoo late to finalize on our move to Dubai, so couldn't find a place for her in the schools we wished....she also had got a place in safa private school....but somehow I really liked the feeler of GRDS..... Now we have paid the admission fees at GRDS and she also has got a confirmed place at kings Al barsha!!! Anyways we have thought to continue atleast for an year here.....hope she settles well.....else we would try somwother option next year... Did hear a lot about EBN..... never read reviews about small steps.....Thanks will check about it as well..... I did visit Crystal valley but I felt it more like a day care nursery but the reviews were very good so was just curious how is it in terms of teaching ....I'd anyone else highlight more about nurseries in mirdif area...Will be great! Thanks

Hi, the school is nice. Both my kids went there, we moved them to a different school largely based on the reason that RDS could not guarantee me a secondary place in a suitable school for my children. Facilities are good, and it has a nice community feel. In terms of nurseries Crystal Valley isn't that well regarded...I would look to either Emirates British Nursery or small steps in Mirdif, I would suggest you seek to do so sooner rather than later as I know for a fact although EBN is big it books out very quickly. They will open on Sunday morning as there is a summer camp running.

I live in al Warqaa it takes me 10 mins to drive to Royal Dubai School, 3 mins to Mirdif City Centre. In my part of Al Warqaa, roads and streets lights are perfectly fine!

I agree, Mirdif or Warqa would be ideal locations for a family as all amenities and facilities would be close by. Warqa has lesser traffic then Mirdif during peak hours, but Mirdif has better roads and street lights. However, all the shortlisted areas will still be far for your husband's workplace.

Hi! My children also go to RDS and I live in Warqa. I think that either Mirdif or Warqa would be good for you but Mirdif would definitely be the best.
