A PLEA TO HELP THE ABANDONED SEMI-BLIND CAT, anyone travelling to Italy ???
Trying to help animals, or for that matter trying to help in general, could be a very rewarding experience. Contributing in any subject that you might feel strong about will always have a positive input in the receiving end, in your life, and others close to you.
Helping animals has all the above qualities with some exceptions. The majority of the cases we encounter are a direct result of human malpractice, exposing animals to unnecessary suffering and neglect.
In this particular story, I will simply be the tool that brings the heart touching details of Maria Grazia, an Italian tourist, that for months and months, planned meticulously her holidays in Dubai and a cat that will give destiny a twist.
She arrived to Dubai with a well organized "must do" list that soon vanished out of the hotel window when she found an abandoned cat outside Ibn Battuta Train Station.
The "must do" list became secondary; making her first priority, feeding the bag of bones ;
The remaining days of her holidays were spent by looking at ways on how to help the cat. For the cat’s disadvantage, she didn't speak English, and even her idea to take him back to Italy was not possible because of Italy's customs time period and formalities required.
She had no choice but to leave him behind to God's own mercy.
While going back home seated in the aircraft, tears rolled down her cheeks, The morning that I read Maria Grazia's enquiry form, She explained the cat’s situation and provided us with directions on how to find him.
After 2 days, I. There he was squalid, unable to stand properly, looking for food here and there. His long coat indicated that he was a Persian or Angora cross.
By observing him walking and sniffing for food, I realized that something was wrong; when I lifted him up I understood he was almost blind.
He had fresh scars and a suppurating abscess in his back, suggesting that this cat was someone's pet before.
At the clinic he was diagnosed with "palpebral dermoide” - a congenital disorder. Three surgeries were carried out by Doctor Renata at Modern Veterinary Clinic on his left eye, but, it was completely damaged. The other eye as she explained, the pupil direction was facing the internal occipital region and the cat could stand a higher chance if, treated by an eye specialist, not available in the UAE.
Maria Grazia, during the time that we were trying to help him here, she contacted Doctor Simona De Stefanis, an ophthalmologist vet specialist ready to admit Berlusconi in the Milan clinic next week.
Right now, we are facing a final countdown to find an airline willing to fly him free of cost, as part of their CSR. Or even a good Samaritan to take him as excess luggage so the cost will be reduced.
I think the cat's ordeal and Maria Grazia's effort to help him has earned a chance for helping.
"If calamities are predestine, then helping is a choice".
