We've regrettably come to the decision to sell my TT and its taken a long time to decide on a car that will fit the bill. I went to all the showrooms and test drove all the bigger cars and none of them were fun to drive. I've narrowed it down to a Porsche Cayenne 2008 model. Any Cayenne drivers here who can give me some reviews on the car performance? I'm looking at the Cayenne S. TIA!

Let's face it, servicing costs are high on *any* prestige make of car. Nobody should be surprised about that. It's just part of the deal - if you decide to buy a prestige car, you have to be prepared to pay prestige prices for maintenance. You're right MG and it's not just the servicing either. We once had to replace all the tyres on my Pajero and my husband's Q7 at about the same time. 2800 dirhams for my Pajero, 7000 dirhams for the Q7.

I tend to disagree, I would never buy new in Dubai, the second hand market is very good. A 2008 Cayenne is fine, not too old and unless it has super high mileage or other serious issues you should be ok with it. Porsche allows you to buy extended warranty for peace of mind for much longer than say BMW, plus the cost of servicing a Porsche is (shockingly) lower than servicing a BMW (assuming no warranty and that you go to AGMC or Nabooda). The Cayenne is an excellent car, I drive a BMW which I like but when I'm in the Cayenne it's worlds apart, such a smooth, comfortable and quiet ride. You cannot under any circumstances compare it to the X5 and Range Rover, even simply because of its spaciousness at the back, but it's true that it's practically the same as the Touareg, in fact they are both made in the same factory, same chassis etc.

I would always buy new and top of the range. The range that you can afford or you may end up spending more than you planned. I agree, Toyota is a good choice.

We're lucky in the UAE that if we buy a new car, we usually get a free service contract thrown in. They don't exist in most other countries. Warranties yes, but not free servicing. If you buy a brand-new Cayenne in Europe or the USA or indeed almost anywhere in the world outside the Gulf, you'll be paying Porsche prices for maintenance from the very first proper service. Ditto Mercedes, BMW, whatever.

A preowned porsche is too costly to maintain. Its really not worth it. You will be buying another persons trouble. My friend had one and the service costs were realllly high!!!!

Wow it seems so expensive to run It's a Porsche, high running costs are part of the deal. That's why so many people buy them new and sell them before the free service contract runs out. You can easily spend tens of thousands of dirhams fixing relatively common problems like broken radiators. Ditto things like Range Rovers, which are notoriously expensive to run and aren't famous for being super-reliable. Bear in mind that the Cayenne is Porsche's product of its joint venture with VW and Audi. All three carmakers pooled their resources to create a common car platform, an SUV that handles like a sports car. So the Cayenne, the VW Touareg and Audi Q7 are, in many ways, the same car - they literally share a lot of the same parts. If you look up the reviews, many authoritative industry sources say the Touareg and Q7 are actually better cars than the Cayenne when assessed in the round, with the benefit of not attracting the crazy Porsche-style prices for parts and servicing.

Why a 2008 model? That is 5 yrs old, and you could be buying someone elses problems. I thought your TT was a new vehicle? My TT is a new vehicle but theres quite the price difference between purchasing a brand new TT and purchasing a brand new Cayenne!

Wow it seems so expensive to run. I have a few friends who have purchased Audi's second hand and have never paid more than 3k per servicing, I cant imagine paying 15k sheesh! It may be back to the drawing board then in terms of finding a bigger car. Can anyone recommend a high performance 4x4 that isnt as costly to run please?

Some friends have a Cayenne Turbo, bought it in 2007, and have had a lot of problems with it. Luckily they have always take out a warranty to cover them for the year, although there are some things it doesn't cover. The warranty isn't cheap but still cheaper than they would have paid out for repairs. Saying that, they do like the car a lot. <em>edited by amelia on 20/07/2013</em>

I've had my Cayenne S 2008 model or the last 2 years and absolutely LOVE it. I bought it off another expat, who had it from new and it's fully loaded. It drives like a dream and I haven't had any issues at all. The servicing at Al Naboodah I don't find that expensive and it does only need to be serviced every 15000 kms not like some cars at every 5000 kms. Could be tempted to sell, let me know if interested

We have had our Porsche Cayenne since 2011 and is a 2009 model. Lovely strong car to drive, comfortable and very reliable indeed. The only issues we have had is the chassis light keep coming on and bleeping when we turn a sharp corner - only intermittent and does not go on with every corner but nonetheless, slightly annoying. We take to the Porsche garage for regularly servicing and the last one, a couple of weeks ago showed all brakes discs and pads needed replacing and quite a lot of the usual things in a one year service - it cost us AED16,000 (jaw dropped to the floor when presented with invoice). However, it is a gorgeous car and hope to have for quote sometime to come :-) HTH
