Yes we have considered the option of hiring someone in the uk, we are waiting for our current maid to decide if she wants to come with us or stay here. She has been with us for over 2 years now and the kids are really attached to her... If she doesn't come with us, I think I will be looking for a mother's helper rather than a maid. I really need help from 3 to 7pm that's all. I can manage the rest since the kids will be at school/nursery. Do you know anyone in the area looking for this kind of position?

We are moving to the Birmingham area, not sure where exactly...will depend on my children's school. She will be fine, there will be lots of Fillipinos living around the Solihul area. Have you thought about hiring a maid here in the UK? There are so many lovely girls looking for work, it might save you the expense of bringing your lady over.

Thanks Tally-ho that's a great news! What embassy are you talking about? Isn't the UK Border Agency renewing the permit? Did you find that your maid settled in the UK easily? We are giving our maid the choice to come with us or stay in Dubai and I'm worried she will get lonely over there...She is from the Philipines... Oh sorry I meant the UK Border Agency. I promise your maid won’t be lonely here there are thousands of Filipino girls here living all over the country. I’m sure she will already have a friend of a friend that she can gen in contact with before she moves over, if not my maid will be happy to get in contact with her to show her how to send money back home etc. Where do you plan on living?

i believe that one of the things you have to consider is that you will then need to pay your maid the min UK wage, which is a lot more than the min salary requirement here! also i think the uk authorities only let you bring a maid who has been with you a certain time, and also who is over a certain age. I don t know the full details, but some friends werent able to take their maid with them as she was deemed to be too young! I was recently looking at UK minimum wage requirements for the same thing and got this from the website: [b'>Living in your employer’s household[/b'> [i'>If you are a member of your employer’s family, live in their home and help run a family business or help with household chores, you are not entitled to the National Minimum Wage if you share in the family’s tasks and activities. If you are not a member of your employer’s family but you live in their home and share in the household’s work and leisure activities, for example if you are an au pair, you are not entitled to the National Minimum Wage.[/i'> [url=http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/TheNationalMinimumWage/DG_175114'>direct.gov.uk[/url'> No one does this in the UK, every single person I know who has a housekeeper would never dream of paying someone that works so hard less than the minimum wage. Also the girls can easily get work over here so they would just leave an employer that was not paying them fairly.

I know a few ladies on this board have relocated to the UK from Dubai and took their maid with them. I just wanted to know if you got their visa renewed from the UK after a year ( a year is a maximum we will get at the embassy in dxb). We are considering taking our maid with us when we relocate end of next month but want to make sure she will be with us for more than a year... Thanks! Yes, it’s very easy to renew their visa after a year. They just go up to the embassy and it’s all done within a day.

Im not sure at all, but I would have thought you would have to go through the UK immigration laws and would not have thought this was too easy to do. Be very interesting to see the responses to this one.
