You are looking for a flat. Some of the main areas for these are Marina, DownTown, Tecom anf Greens etc - I expect you know that. Once you have decided where you want to be - go to look at the local supermarkets' notice boards, where landlords place ads., go into buildings - maybe the concieges have landlords' contact details, look on dubizzle for ads. by land lords and ask on forums.

We always dealt directly with a landlord. All you will require is a rent contract booklet . You can buy it in most stationary shop. We saved the agent fees.

We rent out apartment direct from the owner of the building, it is a managed building, not individually owned apartments, and we pay no agency fee. I think you just need to find a management run building

Only ever dealt with a LL direct and have never had to pay a fee? The fee is for the agency finding you a property and the LL does not see a penny of this All I have ever been charged by the LL is the deposit

It is certainly possible and many landlords prefer dealing directly with the tenant. They will however charge you a fee, but probably only half the fee you would have to pay the agent. The good thing is that you will not have to pay the fee on renewal, which is what many agents lead you to believe to be mandatory. What you should do is choose the area (s) you prefer to live, and start driving around. Depending on the area you will often find several signs on houses with phone numbers. Some state : directly from owner, others don't but are usually also directly from owner. In compound areas you could try find out who owns the properties and get in touch with them. In our case we used a (very good I might add) agent, but there actually was a tel. number on the house and the landlord asked me why I hadn't come to him directly as it would have saved the both of us half the fee. We've had no trouble with him since. No rents raised, no fees at contract renewal, and all repairs are being taken care of. Good luck with your house hunt and ahlan wasahlan fi Dubai.

We arrive within a few days and begin the frantic search for an apartment. Having done some reading already (thank you for some great posts on the topic) I was wondering whether it is possible to find a place without an agent, and going direct to a landlord/owner or building manager, given what appear to be rather large fees to real estate agents in Dubai. What would we need to do to go direct? If we are stuck with fees, how are they calculated? Would very much appreciate comments and any experience with this.
