Thx All.
Will keep a keen eye out for the next few evenings and see what transpires. Its such a small flat and a tiny kitchen there can't be many places to hide!
I had one a couple of months ago in the kitchen, me and my housemate killed it together (how pathetic). Thought that was the end of it until last month when I found a nest!!! Called pest control and they came immediately and fumigated the kitchen. Touch wood I've not seen another since and I always search every nook and cranny to be sure! I would be suspicious if I saw a 'stray' again! Sorry. :(
I believe that cockroaches in this country travel alone. Just because you see one does not mean you have many here. If it persists, then get your place fumigated. However, with fumigation, it doesn't stop cockroaches from coming in. It only kills them once they enter, which means you'll find dying cockroaches near your entry door.
really? even the paste stuff they use? I thought that keeps killing them for 6 months
It does, but it does not stop them from entering. They still come in. As soon as they reach the door, they flip over on their backs, start wiggling their legs, and continue to do that for a few hours. It's a slow and cruel death.
Good! ;-)

i have used the paste stuff too. and was asked to clear my kitchen after 15days or 1 month. i patiently waited. the no was reduced but they did not vanished completely.

here on one of the forum one member adviced to keep bay leaves in the cupboard. i kept them and now after reading your post i wonder is that's why i am unable to see roaches in my cupboard. although they still jog on my slap :(
I guess you've never lived in Dubai Arch Tower - the week we were there I was killing 5 or 6 a day if not more. The booking agent seemed unconcerned when I phoned about it, saying "oh their back again are they?"
I re-named it Cockroach Towers.
:D

Sorry to hijack this thread....I have seen one or two bugs that I thought were small cockroaches. But unlike cockroaches, they are squished easily. They also fly. Any ideas what bug it is?
TIA
Or should I more accurately say cockroach, about an inch long on the kitchen worktop as I was heading to bed last night. Should I be worried or was it just a stray from the rubbish some unneighbourly person piled up in the garbage room round the corner from my front door instead of posting down the chute yesterday?
