HI all,
I'm going to Nepal and Bhutan for 2 weeks around Eid. My Bhutan part is under control but Nepal... I have no idea what to do.
I fly to Kathmandu Aug 23 and out on Aug 25 and then come back Sept 1 to Sept 6. Any ideas or tips for a solo lady traveler looking for a wonderful and safe trip to Nepal would be treasured.
Thanks

You could also go down to Chtiwan national park for a couple of nights. It's fantastic. If you wnated a short trek you could go to Pokara which is really beautiful. The flight down along the himalayas is sensational too. I travelled solo in Nepal a few years ago and loved it.

Sounds like a fantastic trip, particularly the motorcycle trip in Bhutan! My Father would have loved to do something like that. Please post back once you have done the trip, I would love to hear how it went. Safe travels!

Another recommendation in Kathmandu is for the Courtyard Hotel. It is owned by a Nepali/American, Punja and his American wife Michelle. Either one of them or the driver will do the airport transfers and the hotel is very well located for shopping/eating/sightseeing. You could ask them to recommend a taxi driver to take you to Bhaktapur or Patan or both. It is doable and they have a few taxi drivers working for their guests. The hotel also arrange formal tours. http://www.hotelcourtyard.com/ Their website is quite blah. The hotel really is so much nicer than what it appears and the service offered by the owners is second to none. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g293890-d797710-Reviews-Hotel_Courtyard-Kathmandu.html <em>edited by Singapore Sling on 08/07/2011</em>

Ansi, Thanks for the info. I am also maybe looking to do a trek with the treking group called 3 sisters which is a women run company to support women in becoming guides and porters. It would be a great experience but I don't know if I want to trek or to just stay in Kathmandu and do day trips. OH, I am super stoked about Bhutan. I will be riding a motorcycle through the country. Here is the site that I used to book through. So far they have been great. I'l keep you posted on how it goes. http://www.kingdomofbhutan.com/travel/itintrek/motorcycle_bhutan.html

You would be quite safe travelling to Kathmandu on your own. book a place at a hotel and ask for an airport pick-up and drop-off. I can recommend the Blue Horizon hotel. It is basic but clean and very friendly and right in the tourist/travel district. You can book day excursions through them as well and they will provide a car and driver. Walking in the streets is safe. Just be vigilant for pick-pockets etc as you would be anywhere else. It is the rainy season now, so not all roads will be accessible outside the city but it would be possible to do a day excursion or two on your return stay. Use the Lonely Planet guide - it has lots of options. Tell us more about your Bhutan trip. It is still on my list of places to go. Are you trekking? Which airline do you use form Kathmandu to Bhutan? You will have a fabulous time! I am jealous!
