Has anyone else seen this? http://news.efinancialcareers-gulf.com/newsandviews_item/newsItemId-31776

It seems that the 91 days allowance in UK is now reduced to 10 days but only working days. How do they plan to know whether you're working or on holiday? Anyone know someone at the embassy to clarify?

Could this be a legitimate excuse to spend less time with the inlaws?! Will be watching with interest.

Just because it's taken from a banking journal doesn't mean it would only apply to bankers. While we may not elicit your sympathy, please try to spare a thought for the impact the crisis had on my champagne consumption; at one point I thought I'd have to sell my second home. Even on my outrageous salary.

re read the article it's for the banking sector, and why not? About time they paid back into the UK system they are responsible for bankrupting it. Sympathy and bankers, not in my book when you see the outrageous salaries they are on.

Now that I've come out of my cold sweat, I've forwarded this item onto our tax department for their urgent advice. Fingers crossed it is an April Fool! I'll update as soon as I get a response

Is it true that Brits are taxed 50% (those that live in the country)? lol - no. Tax is on a sliding scale depending on how much you earn - nothing if you're earning less than approx 29k aed a year, then 20% if you're earning up to a certain amount (I think it's approx 200,000 aed/yr) and then 40%. The trouble is, most expat salaries are in the top bracket, and the taxman wouldn't take into account the high rents and other overheads here. It'd be enough to make it seriously not worthwhile for Brits to come out here.

As the article states, this would not be a good thing for the UK......I am surprised that they would do this. Why would this not be a good thing for the UK? Is it true that Brits are taxed 50% (those that live in the country)?

Your title is somewhat misleading as it's actually WORK more than 10 days and you'll be liable for tax. Plus anyone noticed the date of the article? :\:
