Hi We are also moving very soon to Dubai with our 2 children, 2 and 4. Of all the emailed responses from schools the Mirdif Star International has been the most helpful. I think judging by your feedback I will also enrol my son there now as I am worried about missing out on places. Should I be worried?? Its very difficult as my husband should have flown out ages ago but his company have been slow sorting out visas. Looking forward to it but very daunting the amount of schools and where to live. Any advice really appreciated.
Thanks again for the info!!!
My daughters will be in FS2 and Year 2, both starting 1st May!
Can't believe that we leave Australia in 2 weeks!
It's all just happened soooo fast, my head is spinning!!!
Thx Again :)
Hi there
good luck with your move!
My son started in January at Star Int, Mirdif, in FS1 and I have been generally impressed with the school and teachers, and my son is happy - which after such a big move I was not expecting, so it has all been very smooth. Also live in Festival City area, but spend so much time in and around Mirdif that I count it as being part of where I live. I think you get used to the planes (noise seems to depend on exactly where in mirdif you live, flight path and wind direction etc).
Thanks for everyone's feedback!
We will be have a good look at Mirdif when we arrive and we have also been
told to have a look at the Villa's, I know that a bit more of a drive, I like the idea
of Mirdif so I am close to the school and things to do!
Hi I live in The Villa and my daughter is in FS2 at Star in Mirdif. I find it is no more than 20 minutes door to door so not too bad once you get used to the drive. My other daughter starts FS1 next year. We are happy with the school - it is warm and friendly. The Villa houses are lovely - quite large with gardens and a lot have their own pools - but no community facilities yet. It is a very new area and still being built pretty much.
Thanks for everyone's feedback!

My DD is also at Star and we came from Australia too. We are *pretty* happy with the school but that seems to be the same with all schools - there is always something you're not quite happy with. We just moved from Silicon Oasis to Mirdif and while the planes are noisy, I wouldn't go back to DSO for anything! Mirdif has great shopping, restaurants, and parks and best of all its close to school!! Good luck with your decision, if you want to ask any questions, I'm happy to help!
Mt dd is in year 2 as well. 50% sounds about right as long as like fluffy says they are in relation to the time started in school (hi fluff!)
I live in festival city, its only about a 15 minute drive. Going against traffic on both pick up and drop off so it works out great. I think area would also depend on where either you or your dh work. Mirdiff wouldn't of worked for us as my dh office is on sheik zayed road so he would hit alot of traffic.
I have no hesitation recommending the school so good luck!
Regarding fees, I think paying 50% upfront to secure place is fine. As long as the fees relate to time the kids will actually be at school. There's another thread about my predicament somewhere but it all worked out in the end!
We live in Mirdif - great location, easy to get around, nice malls and plenty of supermarkets. Can be noisy at night with planes but we sleep through it now. Others live in Silicon Oasis and Arabian Ranches and have a bit more of a drive. I like being close to school - am back home without kids by 8.15am!
Thanks Ladies!
My girls will be starting in Yr2 and FS2 also :)
Makes me feel relieved with all the feedback!
In regards to the fees - they want us to pay 50% up front and the remainder once we get to Dubai.
Does this sound right?
Thanks again
PS have you guys settled in Mirdif - still trying to work out where we are going to make home! LOL
Another happy Star mum. Mine started in January (Y2 and FS2) and I couldn't be more happy. Both children love it there and the teachers are lovely and very good too.
Don't take any nonsense over fees though - they tried to get us to start paying from November!
Hope it all goes well.
P.S. hi minxy!
Hi, alisha
My dd started there 3 weeks ago. So far so good. She has settled in really well. Was worried how she would be starting a new school as well as moving to a different city but they made her and me feel welcome straight away. Teacher as well as support teachers went out of their way to tell me how she was getting on her first day and looked out for her.
Facilities are good, there is a swimming pool in the pipeline but not sure exactly when it will be ready. Overall really happy. Will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Good luck with your move x

Hi Ladies,
Just wanted to know if anyone has their kids currently at Star International in Mirdif.
I have just been offered spots there for my 2 girls and as I'm still in OZ (arriving in Dubai on the 8th April!)
we haven't had an option to have a look around the school as yet..
We have had trouble finding any spots for my youngest (KG2) so we have accepted what we could get!
Any feedback would be awesome!!
Cheers :)
