We arrived in the UK yesterday morning to find BA had kindly broken our baby stroller, even though it was checked in as baggage in its travel bag. The once extendible handle now no longer extends, the collapse latch is broken, the frame is damaged and the hood is ripped.

The number on their website is only operational Monday to Friday so I logged a claim online, but it says someone wil get back to us in a couple of weeks and the claim might take two to eight weeks depending on how busy they are! We fly back on the 6th of April.

Has anyone else ever managed to claim from BA for a broken stroller and if so, how long did it take?

It was in its travel bag and needs to be put together once it's out of the bag, so I didn't check it at the airport. I think I might be confusing people when I say 'stroller' - I mean a proper buggy/travel system thing, not an umbrella-type stroller. I guess it could have been broken anywhere along its journey but ultimately BA are responsible for it, are they not? I've left it for DH to deal with. Apparently even if I claim on the travel insurance, they will then claim from BA so I'm not sure why they want me to claim from them first :\:. Du Du Du Du.................LOL

did you not check the stroller when it came off the baggage carousel? If so you could have just gone straight to the BA desk and lodged the complaint there. They used to replace buggies straight away like they do wth suitcases and they are good quality ones too. (Delsey suitcases) Strollers are flimsy things and are bound to get thrown around and will be sat under piles of heavy luggage so not surprised it happened. Still, ground/baggage handlers should take more care as its not rocket science to realise its somewhat fragile. Go and buy a new stroller in the UK, will be cheaper than buying here in Dubai anyway and then just wait for the money to come through. Im sure they will pay up. BA are very good.

Hi, Had same trouble but with Emirates two months ago in Paris CDG airport. I claimed on Emirates and sent the receipt of the new strolley. We got the money back within 2 weeks. Good luck with BA.

Well, to be fair, you don't know who broke it or where - could have been done in Dubai by the ground handlers. I'd claim on your travel insurance in the first instance as per BA's advice.

It was checked in as baggage and in its travel case, which looks just like any other piece of luggage but I did put a fragile sticker on it. I got an email from them first thing this morning. It says they always advise passengers to claim from their travel insurance company first to speed up the process and avoid having to deal with two companies at once! Uh, you broke our stroller... why shouldn't you be the company to pay for it?! Then it says if the travel insurance won't pay, I have to get a letter from them to say they won't pay and send it to BA who will consider paying the cost of repair. So in the meantime, I'm stuck with a broken stroller! I've emailed DH to ask him to check with the travel insurance.

Best to clingwrap the stroller before giving it in. Strollers are loaded last and usually treated with a lot of annoyance by baggage handlers.

good luck with your stroller. You should take pics of it and to prove the damage and send it to them. It willt ake a lot of follow up and patience but they will eventually do something, I hope. Everytime I fly with them (which is once a year to go back home), a bit of the rubbery thing on the handles is missing...

No-but some one from Emirates literally threw a stroller on my husbnd's lute and broke its neck- it was clearly marked fragile and theoretically stowed with other fragile items-and he couldn't get compensation even though they saw it happen......so good luck-hopefully BA is better than Emirates at recompensing you
