Hello,

I have asked this before and got some answers but thought I can get some more information first hand.

My husband has changed jobs and our visa got cancelled in April. He just got his new visa today, and we thought me and the kids will get it immediately afterwards, but he found out today, that is not the case. He needs to wait until his labour card is issued and then he can apply for our visas.

We are leaving Dubai for summer holidays next week. What will happen to us? Do we just need to pay a fine at the airport and that´s it? How much is it? The PRO of my hubbys company paid a fine of 600 DHR by the time he got his visa stamped.

Unfortunately he has no idea, what will happen at the airport. If we can pay via credit card, cash, how much it will be for me and 2 kids, if need a letter which confirms the visas are in process...(if yes, from whom)...
Sorry, but desperately in need and can´t find any information on the internet

My understanding is you would be much better doing a visa run to Oman to get a tourist visa, if you go to the airport they can ban you from reentering for a year someone told me! not sure if this is right though. We had to do a visa run usual thing new visa old visa canceled and the process is so slow for the new one. But the good bit is it is dead easy, you drive to Oman border, about 1 and a half hour from Dubai, make sure you stop at the Dubai border as you leave to get your exit visa and pay your fines, we were 2 months visa less and cost 545 dirhams in fines each we made the mistake of not stopping at Dubai border as they don't stop you they just wave you through, Dubai border is just a load of old portacabins! Once your stamps are done you drive on to Oman about 10ks to a large impressive building, You just fill a form in and pay the fee, for the entry and exit visa cant remember how much it cost but wasn't a lot. There is a pizza hut restaurant there which is a bit bizarre but a chance to refuel before you head back. Back at Duabi border you go and get your tourist visa, i was given a 40 day one! the whole process took us about 6 hours but we wasted an hour not getting the Dubai exit stamp. I would suggest you do the visa run before you go to the airport otherwise you may get hassle at the airport. Good luck!!

Thanks for all your answers. That sounds not great. The PRO of my husbands company seems to be not very informed. He mentioned we can just leave the country, pay the fine and come in again in September on a normal tourist visa. Our visa will then be issued very shortly. I definately need to check with immigration before, as I do not want to be at the airport with 2 toddlers and have a hustle. Can anyone of you give me a hint how to go about? Sorry, I am a little bit blonde. Should I go to the immigration office in Karama or somewhere to the airport ? Thanks again for your replies.

My DH went to the immigration office just off the trade centre roundabout if that helps.

My DH had the same issue when he changed jobs recently however, as it was taking ages for his new visa they asked him to fly out and back in onto a visit visa to stop the fine increasing. As it was he was still 3 months over his grace period. He was advised at immigration to take some cash with him and just pay at the airport. He ended up paying AED 1000 and everything was fine coming back in. But I would go to immigration if you can and just check, you know how these things change from month to month.

My DH left last year with a similar situation, he had overstayed and besides the fines when he went to get a new visa he found out he had been "blacklisted" because in fact he had overstayed twice in the last year I think. Something like that. Anyway, just be sure about what is going to happen and don't assume that your visa to re-enter will be easily processed as they are cracking down on those who overstay. In the end he did get a new visa but not without a lot of headache and phone calls.

The fine is AED 100 per day per person. I would sort this out with Immigration before you try to leave. From April to now is a long overstayand they might not look too kindly on it.
