JUST GO DO THE DAMN THING WHAT PART OF YOU HAVE TO HAVE ONE AT SOME POINT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND? I can just see the same names cropping up in a few months complaining about how busy it is and how much they have to queue at the ID centres. Not sure who you are SHOUTING at, but I for one totally get that "we have to have one at some point", its the POINT at which we HAVE to have it, that is in my opinion unnecessary if the resdence is about to expire. i think in auh at least if you have like only 2 months left they will not let you do it anyways, but 6 months is long enough. but there are funny rules about getting visas to visit other ME countries with less than 55 days left on your residence visa.

Bed; wrong side; out of; much, ChilliPepper? no i agree too people make it more difficult for themselves sometimes..... just go and do it. Exactly - it really isn't rocket science. And most companies have PROs who will walk you through it. NB - if you are renewing the card, tehy dont' redo the photos which i though was a bit odd. because you have a new photo on your new visa, which if they put in your id information into the system all that would come up.

Not sure who you are SHOUTING at, but I for one totally get that "we have to have one at some point", its the POINT at which we HAVE to have it, that is in my opinion unnecessary if the resdence is about to expire. in abu dhabi come the middle of this month it will be linked to residency visa, its just taken them a bit long to get that far. other companies in free zone have had this linked already. in abu dhabi you have to have an id card in order to register a brand new car, you have to have an id card if you are new and have to get a drivers licence, you are lucky that in dubai you do not have that just yet but its coming. obviously if you have an abu dhabi visa then you have to abide by the rules for abu dhabi. if you have only 6 months left on your visa then you have a choice, if your company is paying that why not do it now. if your pro will do the paperwork or anybody else can do it, i did it for my husband, the only thing that you need to go and do is your fingerprints, but once you have done them even if you have to renew it come 6 months time when the visa is renewed you will not need to do anything, as they just update the visa information etc. so whats the difference doing it now or doing it in 6 months time when people will be panicking again and there will be a big rush again. it costs you the same amount for 1 year as it does for 6 months you are not saving any money etc. if you have to pay for the whole family yourself then of course its could cost you a lot, ie 3 year visas 370 dhs each that i can understand waiting until you need to do it. but really it will come a point when the governments will start to fine people and then you will all be moaning again.

Not everyone has been here for 4 years, and even if they have forcing us to appy when we have only a few weeks left on the residence is just not neccessary or very user friendly.

It would be so much easier if they would just let us tie it in with our residence renewal, why the need to rush off and do it now and then have to renew it again in a matter of weeks. Does not make any sense except for $$$$ Not really - if you have 6 month on your residency - your ID is only valid for 6 months and you are only charged for 6 months. Maybe so, but why not let us do when we renew our residency, whats the rush? Rush???? We have been asked to do this for the last 4 years..... for crying out loud; how much time do you want to get it done!!!

For some of us its not how to do it but when, say you have 3-4 months left on your residence and supposedly are ok to wait until June 1 acc to the deadline. Why should you want to do it now and then have to do it all over again in 3-4 months time. Why would anyone want to have to double the money and bother within a few weeks timeframe. And what is confsuing is that they say we have a June 1st deadline and at the same time say any application after Jan 1st will be fined. That's the issue not how to do it. but whether u have done this in jan you still pay for the whole year, or part year. if you do it now and even have to do it again in a years time you will not need go to eida you just go to typing centre to update your visa details so its wont be the same amount of hassle and its only a hassle because people keep putting it off. your employer if you are working should be paying for it, the majority do so its not even the money that is putting some people off its just cant be bothered attitude a lot of the time.

Princess 1, please tell me whether or not your passport is needed for this process? I just told you, yes your passport is needed. When in Dubai is your passport not needed for any goverment action? Really there is a website with step by step details of what you need. its not difficult to do, and yes its confusing with all the different deadlines just go and do it to be on the safe side, because when it does become clear that a deadline is coming and fines are coming there will be a mad rush again, it doesnt matter when you do it in the whole year of your visa life as you pay for length of visa ie if you have 1.5 years left on your visa you will still pay 100 per year or part of year so it would be 200 dhs plus the 70dhs for the typing charges etc. it has to come to a point when everyone does it. all you need is your passport with visa in it and money 100 for each year left on your visa and 70 dhs for charges. for children under 15 you need just take their passport with visa and a photo with blue background, they do not need to go in person to do any of the fingerprinting etc. and if you do it before they reach 15 they do not need to come once they have had their 15th birthday they will have to go with you to do the photo and fingerprints. so in other words just go and do it now when its easy now to do it. yes you may not see the card for a few months but you dont need it in that if you do need to register a car etc showing the receipt ie you have started the process at the typing centre is enough.

At the point now that I want to scream when I see ID card threads. How many times do people have to explain how to do it and what you need and where to go? There is a website with all the info too. ID card applications - you just need your passport with valid residency. Children under 15 need photos which you can get from any Photoshop in Dubai. Money, you will need cash. Read thru the threads people have put directions of where to go and when. The time and effort spent moaning about it could be used actually getting the thing. And, yes, you do need one. End of. So does your maid. Children. Driver. Everyone. It's not rocket science. Aaarrgghh. edited by ChilliPepper on 15/09/2011

It may be a bit more clearly explained here http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/general/emirates-id-card-know-your-deadline-1.867023 And they say we must renew or apply asap even if your residence is about to run out, seriously that means if you got a month or two on your res you will end up repeating the whole process twice within a couple of months. WTH edited by Di@DXB on 15/09/2011 [b'>So according to this the deadline for expats in Dubai is June 1, 2012?[/b'> Well yes and no, it says the deadline is June 1 for Dubai expats but goes on to say that anyone applying after Jan 1 2012 will be fined. Still confusing :\:

Really there is a website with step by step details of what you need. Your passport is needed for anything vaguely official....... renting a house, banks, job, visa, flights - you name it you can gurantee you need your passport.... Think you may even need it or at least a copy to use the loo !!! edited by Princess_I on 14/09/2011

To get an ID card, proof of residence is necessary. As your residence visa is in your passport, the typing centre will keep your passport whilst preparing your application form and in most cases, it seems, you have to leave your passport at the typing centre for a while. You also have to have your passport with you when you go for the next bit (can't remember if that is just for fingerprints, or photo at same time?) - anyhow, the company can't take your husband's fingerprints, he will have to go himself to the ID centre and at that point, he can take his passport back.

If your company is applying for you, do they need your passport to do this? Just your fingers & eyeballs in a box. Sorry yes.

Am I correct in my understanding? Those expats in Dubai who have not yet registered for an ID card have until next June. Those who are renewing have until the end of October? Shouldn't it be the other way round?????!!!! I would now get it done, enough time has passed and i think you will start to see clear dates appearing. Really it is so darn easy now, just go and get it done.
