Am I correct in my understanding? Those expats in Dubai who have not yet registered for an ID card have until next June. Those who are renewing have until the end of October? Shouldn't it be the other way round?????!!!!

So I have an Ajman visa, but it needs renewing in March - so what I get my ID card for 3 months, then have to get another one? Waste of time.

“Think and wonder, wonder and think.” “How did it get so late so soon? It's night before it's afternoon. December is here before it's June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?” ― Dr. Seuss ;)

Totally confusing, so Dubai residents are Phase IV: and have a deadline of June 1, 2012 after which they incur late charges. BUT any Dubai expat applying for residence without ID after 31 December 2011 WILL incur late charges. Crystal clear -:\:

My Hubby went to Al Barsha to renew, and they said he had to do the finger printing again and his photo's. Im not sure if they are doing the ID process on renewing the visa, Hubby's company PRO is excellent and they never mentioned about renewing ID. I looked at the website last week and the page hadn't been updated since last October, how are we suppose to keep upto date with Government charges. Oh no, so we have to go through the whole process again? Our company arranged everything and we had the VIP service but it still took the whole morning with travelling etc. [b'>I didnt realise they did the VIP for ID, I know they do it for Visa renewal!!! [/b'> They have VIP for ID and VISA renewal??!!! Shoot me!

Our visa is up for renewal in December but we do not have an ID card yet. Do we rush out and get one now, then go through it all again in January or can we do it at the same time as the visa. Is there a link in the processes yet?

just renewed everyone in the office and only had to submit paperwork to the typing centre, they will then advise when the card will be delivered. The only ones that needed to attend the ID centre were those that previously did not have an ID card or who had misplaced their original cards. HTH now need to pop to Immigration and get egate added, something I've been meaning to do for years. edited by twocats on 13/09/2011

does anyone know what i should do if i work in tecom and need to renew? My visa ran out just before the ID was linked to the visa process, so now i just have an expired ID card and can't seem to get hold of anyone that can tell me what to do now.... You have to renew your ID card.

A few months ago, there was confusion. I think EIDA is confused themselves. They said that there is no longer a deadline for ID cards, they will be linked to VISA renewal. Now suddenly they are coming up with a new 'plan' to fine residents. Sounds a bit odd... could be pressure from the police department as with the ID card it is VERY easy to track people down. I just wish they would make one final rule and stick with it... (at least I would get off my !#$ and get it done too) and secondly... just make it an online service!!! im sure they will get alot more registered users! Charge 10-20 dhs extra for online they would make more money and it would be much more convenient! I for one will not be doing anything about it until they link the Cards to the Residency visa process. Why would you go through the typing, medical etc separately to the ID card process. It never made sense and I do think they made a lot of money from it. edited by derien on 12/09/2011

I renewed my card last week as it had expired as I now have a new passport number and residence visa. I wnt to the main post office in Karama, took the expired ID Card, passport and it couldn't have been easier. One dept to fill out a page of paperwork, that is taken for typing, you pay the fee, ( dependent upon the lenghth of your visa either 2 or 3 years) go to another department where they either require fingerprints and photo if it's a first time application or they will simply send you an SMS if its a renewal telling you when the card can be collected and from where. I heard on the radio today that there is a discount in the fees for children this month only. It was very simple no queues if you are there early.

As promised, an update. Just picked up my ID card. So that is 19 days after I went in and applied. For me, it was quick, easy and I don't think 19days is bad at all.

Will get an SMS in around 4 weeks to collect at a Post Office. Probably more like 8 weeks! :) DH renewed his card this year and it took two months before it arrived.

Can I just let you all know that you don't have to go to a typing centre to get the typing done.....it can be done directly in the ID centre......... then they will send you straight to another desk for photo and prints. no need to go for a return appointment.

we got ours in February I think, and the only thing I have used it for was to pick up a prize gift voucher in a mall (saved having to bring passport along, I guess) and also needed to present it at Sharjah CID to get a letter of NOC from Sharjah to get our Dubai alcohol licence. My husband is thinking of ading e-gate to it, but that also sounds like a palaver, but might make it worthwhile. If it helps anyone to know, you don't have to do the typing bit of the application in person - as long as someone takes your passport along on your behalf (for example one person can do whole family plus maid, colleagues, etc) which is by far the biggest pain. Then once you et your appointment to go for the fingerprinting and photos, that's when you have to go in person (children don't have to, just submit photos on their behalf). Beware, the ID centre they send you to for this may not be your nearest or most logical one (we had ours done in Karama Central Post Office, but colleted the completed cards in Rashidiya, go figure).

Near Bin Sougat mall on Airport Road. There is a turning at the side of Rashidiya Metro Station.....practically opposite Royal Air. You basically turn behind the metro station, keep going and the ID centre is there at the end of the residential area. If you have kids you need to take their photos with you....as specified on pale blue background. Honestly, it was so simple.
