I have an Iphone here that is pay as you go. I am going to the US in two weeks time. Can I use it there if I put on a bunch of credit here, or do I have to pick up a sim card over there and if so how does that work? (sorry not very phone savvy). thanks!!

Keep your IMEI # with you when you travel. Pre order your sim card from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/AT-3G-SIM-Card-Unactivated/dp/B001ONWGMC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320987723&sr=8-1

You *can* buy visitor/tourist SIM cards in the USA, but they aren't as widely available as you might expect. The most common solution in the States is actually to buy a prepaid phone and then donate or recycle it when you leave. You can get a prepaid phone for as little as $20.

And just fyi, you can't just pick up a sim card in the U.S. They don't offer them the same way they do here.

And don't use it to access the internet - data charges are horrendous overseas.

If your phone here is pre-paid (which it seems to be from your description), then you'll be perfectly fine in the US, you'll just be roaming. Do put a lot of credit on your phone and you'll be fine.
