I am going to need a flat iron and curling iron as soon as I land ;) We are coming from the US so our voltage is different. Where can I send my husband to purchase these items? Is it the same in Dubai as it is in the UK? Should I just try and purchase from a UK company and have it shipped here and take them with me? Thanks in advance!

I am from the US too (NYC)! I've garnered so much amazing information from the ladies of the forum. I'm excited to finally have the opportunity to pay some knowledge forward! Yes, the voltage is same in Dubai as in the UK. For the flat iron or curling iron, your husband can pick one up at Boots or any hair salon. Instead of a flat iron, however, might I recommend a good hair dryer instead as the flat irons really damage your hair (which takes enough abuse from the water, sun and heat here). I had a Super Solano back in the states so I needed to find something comparable here (professional with the power to tame my locks and give me big round curls and body). I found the best hair dryer in a hair salon called Loft Fifth Avenue in the Dubai Mall. The brand and model is Super Energy 3700 and it comes with 2 nozzles to focus drying your hair and cool temperature as well. Use with a round brush and you won't need a flat iron or curling iron! Now if I could only find a place here to cut/color my hair instead of rushing back to NYC all the time. (I am very picky with my hair - lol) Also, my husband and I purchased a ton of converter/surge strips from Carrefour in the Mall of the Emirates (MOE). They are invaluable for all our US electronics/chargers/etc. (Just not for hair dryers or curling irons from the US). If you need any other advice or help, I'm more than happy in any way I can :) Thanks for the info! To be honest my straightener doesn't get that much use, but I do like to have one for days I'm in a rush. I will need a blow dryer as well, so I may take your suggestion! I have been waiting to upgrade all my stuff until we found out if we are moving or not. I can't wait ;)

If the one you are using in US has dual voltage, it will work here. Check on the back of the flat iron and if it says 110-220V, you can bring it here....you will just need an adaptor :) I use mine from US and it has been working well :)

Hot Tools brand that you get in US has dual voltage and can work in any country regardless of voltage. I have their curling iron and travel all over and use it.

Unless you are looking for a very specific brand I'm sure you will find what you need without too much effort. I'd be willing to bet if you put the brand name you were looking for on a reply post, someone will have seen them and can advise where to purchase. Otherwise as WW says Boots (smaller version of a Walgreens) would be a great place to start your search. Best of luck with the move.

He can get them easily at any Carrefour and probably any other hypermarket. If there is a specific make/model you could order them from the UK but would they arrive before you do?

Our voltage and power points are the same as in the UK.
