As for the saleable cats :(...another huge reason to make sure our cats are secure in our gardens or in the house. Cat runs can be made to keep them safe from theft...think about it :)

glad he is settling. The fact your boys are sitting with him will make all the difference and I bet he will be out of the bedroom in a few days because he will feel very safe :)....Thanks for giving him a wonderful and loving home :)

What a bad situation Sue it talking about, I am keeping my new grey baby safe at home. They way my boys are "sitting" with him, no one will ever be able to get near. lol Sue, my other son moved his laptop into his brothers room so that he can sit with Greyson too!!! That kitty is going to be spoiled rotten or at least I hope so. Thank you for your kindness. Speak with you soon.

I took my pedigree Simese kitten to the vet and she told me that "cats like yours" are often stolen to order and either sold at the market in Sharjah or to families looking for a specific breed of cat.

This is such a massive issue and we discuss this at FF all the time. To us cat lovers we dont see the profit that is made, but to others its big business. We do need to be on our toes and protect the poor kitties. edited by salsB on 02/11/2011

I have reported them to Dubizze where a good majority of the found cats are. The message will go to them I believe. To the police? doubt it. Unless it can be physically proven they wont do anything.

There is and has been a scam going on. It has happened to me 3 times now and I have alerted Dubizzle. I have advertised that I have found a persian. I get an email or phone call from a non english speaker telling me it is his cat. The cat was given to him by a british Family and he only had it one day before it went missing. I am always suspicious, it is in my nature :). I wrote or told all 3 that they HAD to produce a picture, name of the vet, vet cards, age, pedigree if there was one and any other information they could give me to prove the cat was theirs. If nothing was produced they did not get the cat, well, because they wanted it to sell for up to 5,000 dhm on the street. Since this last Persian was unchipped and unneutered I figured they would use it for either selling or mating. Anyway, this person did not call/write back, as I expected. The other 2 I threatened with the police and they didnt either. So, my point? please ask for proof that the cat people are claiming is theirs. Most people have a picture or the former owners have a picture and for your own cat? Take a picture!!! be able to produce proof the cat is yours and hopefully less cats will be put on the open market :( SPREAD THE WORD.
