my sister just called me up, she's panicing. She just saw a dog trapped in the locked car with no A/C or open windows. Poor Dog seems to be upset.

abaa, I'm really glad to hear that. I hope they take the dog to a vet because it is probably going to need treatment for heat stroke.

what is the potential fallout if she broke the window of the car herself in this situation? I presume she's worried about what would happen if she did. Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Personally I would probably go for it - but that's just me! you would "probably" have to pay fo the repair out of your own pocket and depending on who's car it was, could also be chargted with damaging private property etc..... No kidding. I am aware. that was a bit rude especially when your early posts was stating that you were thinking the same thing when someone asked what the potentional fall out could be. Sorry if you thought it was rude. You misunderstood my earlier post. What I meant when I said "thinking the same thing" was I was thinking about breaking the window. Not about the potential consequences. I could not stand by and look at an animal in front of my eyes dieing. I am aware that if I damaged someone's property there would be repercussions for me. If someone else chooses another route (like calling the police) I certainly understand that too. I am just really glad the lady called the police and did something. And I hope to God the dog survives. ETA: And rereading my previous post - I can understand why you read it the way you did. I guess that's the written word for you. I didn't express my thoughts very clearly - sorry about that! ;) edited by Laura74 on 14/07/2011

what is the potential fallout if she broke the window of the car herself in this situation? I presume she's worried about what would happen if she did. that was her initial reaction to it, but she thought she'd call me and ask if it was ok. I then told her to call the police instead. The police have called the owner and he/she is on his/her way. The police are on their way too..... someone better hurry. i think my sister might just break that window edited by abaa on 14/07/2011 edited by abaa on 14/07/2011

Actually a little bit shocked that you even ask this question....... isn't it really obvious what you HAVE to do? i know, but i thought maybe there would be another number to call.

I hope they get there in time. This is an EMERGENCY and the dog will die I hate to say if something isn't done FAST. How utterly stupid can the owner be?

Call the police? It's far to hot for dogs (or humans) to be left in cars! she's calling them now! its so sad how irresponsible some people can get, the owner of the car is no where to be found?

Call the police and I'd see if there was a vet nearby that could help. People are so cruel
