DH decided it is ridiculous to air freight it at AED1000 for a 20 kg box.

TIA

Thanks ladies. Managed to get Makati to air freight a 34kg box as air cargo for AED340, just got picked up today. Think that's as cheap as it gets. They've been great so far if anyone wants to use them. http://makati-cargo.com/index.html Yes. I would agree with you also DGiT and Claire, except my (ex) Maid is no longer with me.

SB why are you organising your maids shipping? It's her responsibilty not yours and she will find a rate far cheaper than you can via the maid network. Yeah agree completely. Let her deal with it with the Maid network - it's amazing how it all gets sorted and how much cheaper too.

Where in Philippines? Is it within Metro Manila? I have used Makati Express recently. They pick up my package on Thursday night then it arrive in Manila on Tuesday ----- Air Cargo - Bulilit Box (Small one) their required minimum load is 30Kg up to maximum 35Kg, I paid AED 260. But if you will send outside manila, you need to pay 1AED per Kilometer from Manila. If you will send via Sea Cargo, the price will be less and there is no limit in weight --- I think they will charge you AED 200+ for Mega size box & AED 150+ for Jumbo size box. But it will be delivered within 35-45 days for Metro Manila. Outside Manila, it will depend on the province. HIH edited by uary on 10/11/2011

My maid uses a company called Makati Express. Think they charge a few hundred and there is no limit to the weight of the box.

Some companies have been recommended on here - I really can't think of who we used but the little vans are always driving around piled high with heavily taped boxes. Found this for you but don't know the company http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=100660

there are loads of shipping companies that pick up for the Philippines and they are not at al expensive. It takes between 6 - 10 weeks to arrive but all the housemaids know about the companies. Get your housemaid to ask around and come up with some recommendations. My housemaid used to send her huge boxes off for christmas and birthdays. I used to help her with the cost - can't remember exactly what it was but nowhere near 1,000 dhs. Sorry I just can't remember the name of the last company she used - but they were excellent. You call them and they bring boxes and packing tapes and come back another day to collect.
