Where to Go For Help With Herniated Disc?

Tomorrow I'm going to my doctor for a referral for physiotherapy. I've had a herniated disc - L5-S1 for many years now and I did go for physio for it just over three years ago. This was in Phuket and I was very happy with the physio as the doctor and the physiotherapists used and suggested only natural remedies, like massage and exercises to help.

The physio there included 8 sessions of a combination of heat, electrodes, ultrasound and traction, then some stretches towards the end. When I first moved to Dubai, around 3 years ago, I had gone to two other rhumatologits adn I wasn't happy with them since they suggested only one session of physio and they wanted me to take drugs for the pain. I tried the drugs only for a short time and they didn't help.

I thought of this when I saw the thread on sleep clinics and someone had mentioned Neuro Spinal Hospital. Have any of you used this or do you know anyone who has? Or if they don't have a good reputation, can you suggest where I could go for physio or similar treatment? Our health insurance covers quite a good selection of hospitals and clinics, so this is good. Oh, and my doctor is at City Hospital. It would be nice if I heard good reviews about the physio there too.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the new replies. I'm still waiting for the approval to come in. I used to go to a chiropractor regularly when I was still in Canada. I left Canada in 2004 but I remember each visit was around $20.00. I've checked with chiropractors here and their costs per visit are about 4 times that. :( I'll check again which places I can go with my insurance. edited by natalie8 on 16/02/2011

Have you tried a Chiropractor? If you do a search, there is quite a few referrals on the site. My husband suffered from disc problems, so I feel your pain! Good luck!

Natalie, Depends which part of town you are in but you could try Steve Richardson at Medicentres in either Al Barsha or Motorcity. He really helped me when I had been in agony for months after a couple of sessions I was like a new person !! Good luck

Thanks to all of you for your replies. I need to check the list of who's covered, if the osteopathy centre is. I know that Neuro Spinal and City Hospital are.

Natalie, I cannot recommend enough an osteopath called Aziza at Osteopathic health centre. When I started with her, I was bearly walking (after having been treated by 3 different physiotherapists in Dubai). She saved my life. And now, I am as good as new :) :) You can check them at www.osteopathydubai.com I have heard that the other osteopaths at the centre are as good as Aziza, but haven't tried them myself. Good luck!

We to Dr. Catalin at Neurospinal. Cant say much for his bed side manner, but he prevented me from giving in to surgery (being pushed for it by a famous doc here), and explained my real problem (not the herniated disc but the degeneration). I thought he was pretty good. edited by kcinthecity on 09/02/2011
