We are off to New York for a week at the end of July... Can anybody advise the best places to shop?
TIA

If you want the true "New York Shopping" experience, take the bus from Port Authority Bus Station to Woodbury Common (about 1 hour) for the most amazing shopping experience ever.

For Century 21, best to go on weekdays as weekends can get really crowded. Go first thing in the morning as it's still tidy and you have the energy to rummage through all the items. Great place to look for Men's suits too. Macy's is my favorite though, every Wednesday has a special sales usually. Be sure to get the visitor 10% off pass like one poster suggested, but also look at newspaper that morning ie New York Post, they sometimes have special coupons in there ie get $10 off for every $25 purchase. Check out their website right before as sometimes you can print out the coupons from there :-) For souvenirs, Canal Street in Chinatown is great to browse around. If you like or want to try Malaysian food, Nyonya on Grand Street has the best food outside of Malaysia IMO :) Trader Joe has got lots of good stuff, that's where I usually stock up on honey and good quality maple syrups among other things (a bit heavy to lug back, but I can't resist) Have a fantastic time! I am so envious :) edited by Saharagypsyrose on 13/07/2011

oooooh my favourite place - making my 12th trip there next week! before you go to any dept stores go to...Century 21 - it's down near where the world trade centre used to be. it's basically a big cheap discount brand place - even has toiletries, i have had amazing vivienne westwood, prada, not to mention all the great jeans brands - for hardly anything. it's always the first place i go to, as that dictates the rest of my shopping! my other favourite places: macy's - self explanatory abercrombie and fitch - there's one on fifth avenue now kiehl's - there's a standalone store or they're in bloomies apple old navy AND don't forget the drugstores/pharmacies - even brands like l'oreal are loads cheaper and they often have hair care brands eg paul mitchell, kerastase, very cheaply. enjoy!

Macys is great, so is Bloomingdales. Dont forget when you go to take your passport as you get a special visitors card and you get I think 20% discount. Then there are plenty of roads around there with shops as well. although this depends on what you are looking for. I spent 8 hours in Macys one year - amazing day as it was in the sales as well and chlothes / shoes are so much cheaper than here!!! Have fun
