I was looking for new pets and watched EW for a while then saw a thread about a lady who had to go back to UK but could not take all her cats. So we decided to take the 2 that could not go back. Tonight I emailed the lady to tell her one of the cats is poorly and not sure how long we can keep him going without saying goodbye forever.

The lady who has returned to Dubai we have kept in contact and is coming over tomorrow to say goodbye, I feel so sad I have had to send that email. Really trying to explain something but I can not. Emotions are so poweful. Not making much sense, but I know what I mean in my heart.

I was escaping from Lecnac fractions.................oh no actually that's why I logged in tonight........ I lurked for a few months then joined in the summer of 2004. I was put off joining for a long time because the name was expatmum in those days, and I so wasn't interested in the mother and baby meet ups.

Really big hug for you shazman. I remember well the thread about those cats and how thrilled 'Pets regulars' (lol) all were for the furry pensioners when you offered to take them on. It's not often someone is prepared to take on an older pet, let alone two, and give them a right royal retirement. I've seen those kitties chilling in your home and they know they've landed on their feet! Strength to you as you go through this my friend. xxx ETA - Oh SD, I'm so sorry about your dog too. xxx edited by Green-ish on 21/01/2011

Hugs to you Shazman, losing a pet is always hard. But good on you for keeping in touch with their previous family. After having no choice but to give them up (I know how hard that is) I am sure they have been glad to hear updates and can come and say goodbye. I hope to see my rehomed dogs again one day. As for your question, I joined so long ago on a friends recommendation. Then left for a while as I moved and was really busy and then rejoined on a whim one day a couple of years ago I think and have been passing by ever since!

My husband wanted to apply for a job here and I said sure, no problem. then thought it might be wise to find out about Dubai. Found expatwoman in 2002, joined in 2003. Still is the best site for accumulated information. Sorry Shazman :(..didn't know about your kitty :( edited by SueB on 21/01/2011

I joined because I always find the answers to my questions here. At least one person would know a process, where you can find something etc. Wish I had known about this site when I first came to Dubai 6 years ago. Would have made the transition here so much easier.

I joined because my husband moved to Dubai 18 months before me and was all alone- and i was trying to find a local company who would deliver a birthday cake to him in Dubai as a surprise-couldn't believe how helpful everyone was over such a small thing

Hugs to you, Shazman. We had to have our beautiful dog put to sleep on Monday and I can't believe how much I miss him. Pets fill a much bigger hole than you realise. I don't know why I joined EW, it was years ago. It would have been for info but I can't remember if there was a specific piece of info I wanted.

Shazman, {hugs} I'm sorry to hear about your little cat. That is very sad. You are making sense to me - our pets' love is unconditional. In many ways I think they are more loyal to us than even our family members and they are there at our behest 24 x 7. Heck, my dog has nursed me through miscarriages, births, deaths and all manner of dramas and at 12 1/2 years old she still comes back for more. We intend to bring her to Dubai with us, but I don't know if she'll be with us for the trip home {:-(. I hate to think of life without her. I came here looking for information on what it was like for westerners living in Dubai.
