So I have a mole on my neck that does not look good and has grown and changed colour in the last couple of months. I went to a dermatologist who suggested that it be removed ASAP and have it tested. The medical centre rang to check with my insurer, Mednet, who told them that if the result came back negative then they would cover me, but if it came back positive, then I would not be covered?!??!?!?!? Is this normal?????
TIA

How does one get a govt health card? Hi SunDevil. I have bumped up a thread for you about the procedure but it is in the "Pregnancy, Babies, and Toddlers" forum. Could you please go there and see the thread as we have discussed it in detail on that forum? Thank you! Thank you! I had no idea it was even possible.

[b'>Get a Government Health Card for your children and take them to your local Government clinic for their immunisations. They will be free. That's what we do. Also consultation is only 40 aed. There are some additional immunisations you can have, which are charged, but optional.[/b'> Unfortunately the price for consultation has gone up to Dhs.150 for expats now but vaccinations are still free until age 5. To get a card you have to go to Al Wasl, only costs Dhs.110 for a year for children.

Green Crescent NAS are terrible!! I had to have a toenail removed and they paid for the consult with Dubai Podiatry where I was told I need to have the toenail removed but then wouldn't pay for the 4500 dhs procedure to remove the toenail and the reason given was that podiatry was "alternative" medicine and therefore not covered. DH sent them the paperwork showing them licensed here in UAE as a regular doctor but after 5 months of fighting with them, they still denied the repayment and we gave up. Now we are with Daman but it's all prepay with reimbursement after submitting all the paperwork. I'm not looking forward to that and having to track everything to make sure we are getting our money back. And while I'm ranting, why don't the insurance companies cover immunizations for children? With three children five and under in our house including a 6 month old baby, immunizations are getting really expensive.

Do not get Green Crescent (NAS). They are also among the worst. They never want to cover anything either...

Can't remember - I left the job this insurance came with in April - but wanted to update for fairness to say Daman did approve that minor op in the end. It wasn't really too long to wait for approval but I knew I was leaving the job - I just got the op in the week I left ;-) So a thumbs up there.

I too had issues with Mednet; they saw deviated nasal septum as a partial diagnosis and refused to cover the rest of my op, even, which the doctor wrote back to confirm was completed unrelated to the DNS - nasal lining inflamed due to allergies. Nope, not covered at all. Still, I'm finding Daman just as bad - they have spent over a week so far deliberating whether to cover the removal of a lump from my leg, they will only do two months of prescription medicines as standard and don't cover half the doctors as standard that Mednet did. Is there a good healthcare cover here?! Do you have Daman International or regular? I'm with Daman with International cover and they've been pretty good up till now.

I had issues with Mednet too. They made me suffer for 2 weeks before they finally approved my surgery for undiagnosed pelvic pain. The night before the procedure they asked me to seek a second opinion.Sent me to another hospital where the doctor gave the same diagnosis, the lady needs surgery. My doctor could not believe it that the procedure finally got approved. My appendix was pressed under my intestines and the pain was immense. They would never provide the updated information on the phone when Iwould call them.It was just a nightmare which I would like to forget. But in the end justice was done as they couldnt refuse my case after seeing another doctors report. edited by mum_786 on 27/03/2011

We are with Daman and it is quite good. We have the international plan and it even covers a full medical check up every 3 years

Tru Blu - I cannot begin to describe the range of bad experiences I have had with Mednet. Most recently my husband got diagnosed with a deviated septum which causes him extreme breathing difficulties as he also suffers from asthma and allergies. Mednet have this procedure listed as an exclusion - even though it can be life threatening. Ridiculous! We now have to pay for the surgery. Shocking! It doesn't surprise me though. DS2 (who has been covered with Mednet since he was born) has mild asthma. When we went to renew the policy this year they told us that he would no longer be covered for anything related to asthma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it but we stuck with them as we didn't want to serve waiting periods for things again.

As Spongemonkey says. If it is cancer then it would be covered but if it is not, if it's something non dangerous, it would not be covered and hence the test is not covered either. Same thing happened to me with Alliance Nextcare. Luckily the test was negative but it hurt my wallet!

Are you sure they got it the right way round? Insurers will often not pay for preventative tests but will pay for the treatment ( doh! I know ) - worth checking yourself I would suggest. That would be my logic. I don't know why they wouldn't cover cancer anyway. It is not as if it would be pre-exisiting. I will double check myself though.

If your insurance package doesnt cover cancer then it is normal. Ahhh, okay. Well, lets hope it is negative! I have had a lot of trouble with the particular insurer over the last few years. They never want to cover anything. It is pretty expensive really and we hardly ever use it. I just thought they were being difficult.:\:
