my parents never censored my reading... and i have fond memories of sneakily reading my mum's er [i'>trashy[/i'> paperbacks she kept under the bed LOL !! so, she didnt leave the trashy stuff out for your pleasure then.....hmmmmm I would think they were under the bed for a reason.... lol..sensing a little censorship happening....

I was reading jackie collins at 13 ............ altho I think Stig Larsson would be appreciated at a more mature age. Geez I have 30 something mates that still cant get to grips with them!!

There is quite a few extremely graphic and violent scenes in that book and I honestly don't think it would be suitable for a 12 year old- we're not talking a bit of Mills & Boon action! I didn't even want to watch the film version with my mum and dad at Xmas as I knew would die of embarassment during those scenes!!! Why don't you find the bit in the book and read it yourself and then you will know....?

My mum used to even censor the woman and womans own. I'd go to have a read if it and the problem page would have been ripped out as well as anything to do with loose living. :D Oh she was smashing she really was. :)

I've read that trilogy and told a friend's daughter last year that I didn't think it was a good idea if she read the first one (or the others), because of the violence. Her mother had no idea what it was about, and the 16 year old went ahead and read it anyway, she told me she thought it was gripping (which, indeed, it was). Fortunately, my own daughter has not manifested the slightest interest in it and is currently reading "Alice through the Looking Glass". I certainly would tell a 12 year old it's "adult reading" and that they probably wouldn't enjoy it now, best to keep it till they're older.

no i don't think so in all honesty. i haven't read the books myself. is the follow ups similar? i am still curious whether parents censor or not? why don't you read them then and then you can make an informed decision. I think at 12 I would check out the books and i've read the girl with the dragon tatoo and I don't think it's suitable for a 12 year old. Out of interest - did your sister read it?

hmmmmm have you read the girl with the dragon tatoo.....I'm not sure I would want my daughter at 12 to read part of it - if you have read it and are comfortable with her reading it - only really you will know.....

I would keep them till later on Would a 12 year old even want to read those books? My Dad censored my reading... as a teenager he wouldn't let me read the Earth Children series written my Jean M Aual. When I was in my 20's and read the books I realised why... full of s e x
